When it comes to shoes (and plenty of other sartorial genres), there’s nowhere I trust more than Nordstrom. So when it dawned on me that fall was actually here and not still on the horizon, it was the Seattle-based retailer that I turned to for inspiration pertaining to which pairs I should buy for the season. Specifically, I called on Beth Kanfer, Nordstrom’s fashion director for footwear and accessories, to give me the inside scoop on all things 2022 shoes. And as I’ve come to expect from the brand during my 27 years on this planet, she more than came through.
According to Kanfer, now is the perfect time to reevaluate the shoes in our current rotations. “With silhouette shifts across ready-to-wear, from skirt lengths to leg openings, the need to update your shoe closet has never been more important,” she says. As for the actual styles that deserve one of those much-coveted slots on your rack, Kanfer kindly narrowed down the almost limitless number of options to just five styles worth investing in for fall. Ahead, read all about the ones she’s backing right now, from loafers to over-the-knee boots.
“Traditional loafers on a lug or a refined sole are reworked with a modern lens and are perfect for the new wide-leg jeans.”
It doesn’t get more classic than this.
These feel so modern and clean.
If you’re looking for a fantastic pair of loafers at a mid-level price, Hereu is the brand for you.
Loafer lovers know that G.H. Bass is the best shoe brand for an affordable loafer.
I’m high-key obsessed with these.
“Artfully sculpted heels and interesting toe shapes help elevate your back to work wardrobe.”
Okay, Zara. Go off.
Metallic accessories and shoes are having a moment right now.
This wine color is too pretty to pass up.
BRB, picking my jaw up off the floor.
In love.
“Clogs are easy on, easy off and provide total support and comfort to update your look for the weekend.”
This purchase shouldn’t take any convincing.
One day these will be mine.
Waterproof, cute, and celeb approved? I’ll take a pair in every color.
Jonathan Anderson never disappoints.
For pairing with skirts and jeans all fall long.
“From dress to boots, next-level platforms look best in fun colors and novelty prints and can be worn back to mini and maxi dresses.”
You can’t beat this price.
These are worth every penny. Hell, they’re practically a work of art.
These are a lesson in making platforms look subtle and low-key.
Need a lift?
L.A. girls love Simon Miller’s platforms.
“The over-the-knee boot is the most dominant runway boot of choice for fall ’22. OTKs and thigh-highs are dramatic, impactful and a must-have for everyone. Style with a sexy body-con dress for max impact.”
I can’t get these out of my head.
Prepare for compliments.
Cowboy edition.
These are slick.
I needed a pair of these, like, yesterday.
