Colorful iGame GeForce RTX 4090 Vulcan OC-V Review – The Bigger The LCD, The Better!

Over the last couple of weeks, I have actually managed to take a look at 6 different GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards which include the Founders Edition variant too. The Founders Edition is the baseline that will be used for comparison with all the cards since it is available at MSRP and also has one big advantage which is its power limit. Unlike the other models, the RTX 4090 FE comes unlocked with a 600W power limit. There are only a few cards that exceed this power limit and to our surprise, it is also a variant from Colorful, the Neptune, which does that. But our focus in on the Vulcan OC-V today.

So straight off the bat, the Colorful iGame GeForce RTX 4090 Vulcan OC-V is designed really well. It looks bulky but it also looks unique and great. The thing that stood out for me was the V cut-out on the backplate which is definitely a standout of the card. But for those who are purely getting an AIB 4090 based on its looks and features, the GeForce RTX 4090 iGame Vulcan OC-V has more than just looks. The LCD and the additional accent plate plus the magnetic lock on the shroud are a plus in my books. Playing such a high price for a graphics card, you expect to get some goodies. Each AIB has its own way of doing that but Colorful has always been the one that really goes the premium route each generation.

With that said, a heatsink is not a heatsink if it just looks great and doesn’t cool the graphics card as well. The iGame Vulcan with its massive aluminum fin array and nine heat pipes does a superb job at cooling the card, matching the RTX 4090 SUPRIM X which is a feat on its own. It definitely weighs more than the SUPRIM X too and that can explain the better cooling. But there’s one area in which I was hoping the Vulcan would really be strong and that was the power limit. However, with a 480 Watt power limit, the card doesn’t necessarily do anything special here. Sure it is 30W higher than the reference TDP of 450W but the competition is already past 500W. Once again, Colorful does have over 600W power limit designs for the 4090 but I had hoped Vulcan to be one of those which it isn’t.

Overall, the Colorful iGame GeForce RTX 4090 Vulcan OC-V performs really well and offers superb cooling performance while looking absolutely great. If you are a fan of LCDs or unique aesthetics on your graphics cards, then the iGame Vulcan OC-V is a great choice to consider. The card costs $1750 US.
