Fully Vaccinated and Boosted Food Writer Julie Powell, Author of ‘Julie & Julia,’ Dead From Cardiac Arrest at 49

Food writer and author of the hit memoir “Julie and Julia,” Julie Powell, has died at 49 from cardiac arrest.

Powell had been tweeting about not feeling well in recent weeks.

“‘Julie & Julia’ became an instant classic and it is with gratitude for her unique voice that we will now remember Julie’s dazzling brilliance and originality,” Judy Clain, the editor-in-chief of Little, Brown and Co., said in a statement announcing her death.

“We mourn her loss with her husband Eric and her family. We are sending our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Julie, whether personally or through the deep connections she forged with readers of her memoirs. She was a brilliant writer and a daring, original person and she will not be forgotten.”

The writer had also tweeted about being vaccinated and boosted several times.

So, as a vaccinated, boosted person, I’ve not been tested for Covid. Is it possible for me to be at this point? The Long Covid thing worries me, but also keep in mind that I’m a hypochondriac.

Powell also tweeted about not allowing unvaccinated relatives into her home.

“My cousin won’t get vaccinated and I don’t want to allow him in the house with my niece and nephew who are too young to be vaccinated,” she wrote in October, 2021.

Yeah. I’ll admit I’m being a little neurotic with the masks. And I’ll admit I’m looking askance at my co-shoppers. “Are you vaccinated or a nut?” It’s true I’m ok, as a vaccinated person surrounded by vaccinated people. But I don’t trust my country-people. Not even a little bit.

Also, my niece and nephew are far too young to get vaccinated. I don’t know if I can’t carry COVID and give it to them. So yeah, while I understand that vaccinated people should feel free to move around freely, I get the fear people have of moving too quickly.

Yup. I have no room in my head for those folks, and I think of myself a hugely empathetic person. I know lots of people who’ve had breakthrough infections, and it sucks but you know what? They’re mostly okay because THEY’RE VACCINATED.

I’m narrowing down my dates for going down to Texas.

I’m a little terrified.

It’s not so much COVID, per se. I’m vaccinated, my family is vaccinated, etc… I’m just scared. Leaving my house feels like a lot.

Nature is healing, I’m back to being my usual crazy-ass self.

JFC. The way this vaccine is rolling out is a SHAME ON OUR NATION. And its not like we don’t already have enough shame to deal with.

This vaccine has me a little noshy but totally not up to actually doing something about it. Also, there are cats. pic.twitter.com/jt5Bf7dLdU

I know everything is getting better, the snow is melting and vaccines are happening and we have a sane President, I know. It’s a gift.
Why am I still bereft?

— Julie Powell (@licjulie) February 26, 2021

I would get vaccinated again for a free joint. (I love my parents, but dude…)

Powell died at her home in New York on Oct. 26.
