I’m always keeping an eye on what’s trending in the nail space because I’m a major design enthusiast. Every few weeks, I sit down with my nail tech Stephanie (who is the best), and we plan out what designs we’re vibing with the most for the season. We now have my nail looks on lock for the rest of 2022, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still curious what other folks will be sporting during the colder months. Regardless of the season, I’m always screenshotting looks for future inspo anyway.
To get the scoop, I tapped three celebrity nail artists. They dished on what designs and winter nail colors they foresee being a hit. Read on to find out what they had to share.
CEO of Nailing Hollywood Mazz Hanna is predicting that chrome nails will be everywhere this season. Whether that’s folks sporting a frosty silver shade or using a chrome nail pen to give any hue a reflective sheen.
Hanna also foresees ombré nails being a hit, “specifically, the kind that you can do at home with nail strips,” she shares. “The at-home nail strip products have come such a long way, and they make it easy to achieve a beautiful, long-lasting manicure at home.”
Nail artists all agree that rich, dark shades like purple, burgundy, and electric blue will be popular for winter. Celebrity nail artist Holly Falcone is a fan. “For nails that emanate ‘boss ass bitch’ vibes, I love nails in natural shapes (think squovals or rounded) with super-dark and rich colors,” she says. “This looks great on both long and short nails.”
Celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt loves a good matte look for winter. Pair your dark winter nail color with a matte topcoat to give it an extra-mysterious feel. As a bonus, matte nails also make them look like your favorite cozy sweater.
Falcone also loves to add a little spice to a classic design for the colder months. “While the traditional pink-and-white combo is classy year-round, I like switching up French manicures during the winter with a milky or clear base and a deep shade for the tip. Chanel Les Vernis in Desir works particularly well for this.”
Falcone also sees traditionally feminine-leaning designs leading the way this season. “Nail art designs that emphasize femininity with pinks and florals are definitely going to trend this season and into 2023,” she states. “Pink gingham or vintage roses are soft but strikingly beautiful. You can get these looks with either really high-end nail stickers or practice hand painting your nail art.”
Falcone also loves keeping it festive once the holidays kick into high gear. “A good confetti topper can take any bare nail or mani from average to holiday-festivities ready! Think metallic toppers like Holly Falcone x Manime’s nail stickers in Disco Dust or colorful neon confetti toppers like Orly x Lisa Frank in Your Lucky Star for a colorful confetti look. My go-to is two to three coats of Orly x Lisa Frank Hits the Spot!”
