We’re but eight days into 2023, and yet the year is already brimming with viral or potentially viral items and trends that are sure to go on to reign throughout the next 357 days. Thanks to platforms like Instagram and TikTok, where content is spat out every second of every day, there’s no need to wait months to determine what’s going to be big for Q1. We already know it, and yes, Ugg’s ubiquitous new Classic Ultra Mini Platforms play an integral part in the discussion.
But the popular booties aren’t the only items taking over our feeds and in-person reality at this very moment. Rather, 2023 has racked up its fair share of year-defining fashion pieces, from Loewe’s padded leather bomber jacket (which has already been spotted on Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, and Taylor Russell) to Mango’s faux-shearling alternative for Totême’s cult-favorite and often sold-out jacket. (Mango’s version is equally likely to sell out, so act fast while it’s restocked.) To see and shop them all, keep scrolling.
If you’re on social media, you’ve seen these boots. The latest style from Ugg to take the world by storm feature a high platform and a cropped shaft and have been worn by everyone from Elsa Hosk to Bella Hadid to Kylie Jenner.
And just like that, the anti-skinny jean mania continues. Thanks to designers and celebrities alike, denim that opposites the super-fitted look we once frequented is all anyone really wants to wear, be it a wide leg or a straight one. As long as it’s baggy, it’s big for 2023 (pun intended).
Mango’s faux-shearling jacket began circulating on Instagram and TikTok at the tail end of 2022, but with its recent restock, the affordable take on Totême’s $2600 style has successfully made claim on 2023 as well.
There’s this photo I found on Pinterest of Jennifer Aniston from the ’90s where she’s posing for a magazine in a black blouse, miniskirt, and shockingly good point-toe knee-high boots (that I believe are Jimmy Choo) that haunts me. Her boots are incredible (like dreamy incredible). And ever since I saw it, I’ve been on the hunt for a similar pair. This pair from Reformation is it.
Remember when Hailey Bieber couldn’t stop wearing those rimless Balenciaga sunglasses at the end of 2022, causing similar styles to go completely viral? Well, she’s ditched those in favor of a slim, oval Saint Laurent pair, which she’s been wearing practically every day lately. And we all know what that means…
Loewe’s leather padded bomber jacket was destined for internet fame ever since it debuted on the fall/winter 2022 runway. Eye-catching yet surprisingly wearable, the style has become a fan favorite among celebrities like Taylor Russell, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Bieber, with all three styling it in a very laid-back, casual fashion.
TikTok has done it again with yet another Skims product. Just like with the brand’s maxi lounge dress, the app has caused a huge sell-out of this contour lift underwire tank as well as the bodysuit version, with both being completely sold out on Skims’s website. Luckily, Net-a-Porter still has the Sienna color in stock.
The first thing I did when I spotted these Miu Miu–looking buckle boots from Mango was add myself to the waiting list for my already sold-out size (it’s back, don’t worry) and DM the entire Who What Wear editor’s Slack room to share the link.
If you haven’t noticed, anything worn by J.Crew’s head of womenswear design Olympia Gayot goes viral—period. This sheer, sequin skirt is one such item, and after briefly selling out, the gorgeous style is back.
Thanks to Dua Lipa, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Bella Hadid, and both of the Jenner sisters, these oversize, teardrop-shaped earrings from Bottega Veneta garnered massive popularity, so much so that they sold out. Don’t fret, though. This Jenny Bird style has a similar effect, and is a fraction of the price.
Whether it’s on celebrities, friends, or TikTok, I can’t seem to escape this floor-length Simon Miller coat. Cozy, warm, and wildly versatile, the shearling maxi is a must buy for winter.
Point-toe slingbacks have been rising the footwear world for the last few months, with penny-loafer styles like these being among the most sought after takes among the fashion crowd.
I’m calling it: Canadian tuxedos will dominate the 2023 denim scene, especially when the styles are structured with a mid-wash blue. Shop the matching Structured Denim Shirt ($135).
Every time Adidas partners up with a buzzy brand on a fresh pair of Sambas, the fashion world eats it up. So, of course, when it was announced that Sporty & Rich would be coming out with a pair, the green-and-white style sold out pretty much immediately. Luckily, there’s a thing called StockX.
Khaite’s leather bomber jacket with a shearling collar has rocked the influencer and celebrity world in recent weeks, with sightings on Laura Harrier and Camille Charrière. With a high price tag, though, comes the need for many people to source a more affordable style that still packs a lot of punch. That’s where this Hudson Jeans alt comes in.
No pants, no problem. The most integral part of pulling off 2023’s pants-less trend are semi-sheer black tights, which then have to be worn without pants (but with some sort of brief or bodysuit) and with point-toed boots or heels. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
From Kendall Jenner to Instagram darling Emili Sindlev, everyone I stalk on the daily appears to be frequenting cowboy hats, whether they’re actually out in nature or just hanging out by the pool.
There’s no use being cold in 2023 when boots like this $60 faux-shearling lined pair from H&M exist. But actually, I can’t believe these are only $60.
The modern-day version of YSL’s 2000’s-era Mombasa bag, Matthieu Blazy’s Sardine bag from his debut collection for Bottega Veneta was always going to be a huge hit on the fashion circuit. With its gold, horn-shaped handle and the brand’s iconic intrecciato weave, it’s more of a work of art than most any bags on the market right now. And since it was brought back for the brand’s spring/summer 2023 collection, the style is gearing up for another popular run.
We adored the cotton version of this off-the-shoulder Reformation top, but nothing prepared us for the love we’d feel toward its dressed-up, velvet big sister. Gorgeous with everything, the winter silhouette will be in everyone’s cart (and later, on their feeds) in the coming weeks. Just wait.
There’s always one Khaite dress that dominates a season, and this time, it’s the Octavia off-the-shoulder mini, which comes in this olive shade and cream. Paired with tights and point-toe pumps, it’s sure to bring in compliments galore. Oh, and did I mention that it’s available in all sizes and 50% off at Net-a-Porter?
Anything leather that’s embellished with studs will make for a perfect addition to your wardrobe this year. And it just so happens that this jacket—which is priced at $765 less than retail—includes both.
Metallic accessories, especially silver ones, are taking over after a successful run on the spring/summer 2023 runways. While many pieces from fashion month could cost you your life savings, plenty of off-runway options are available to fill the gaps, like for example, this $26 skinny belt from Mango that will turn any jeans-and-sweater outfits up a few hundred notches.
I posted about this dress after popping into Staud’s NYC store and got a shocking amount of DMs from people who wanted to buy it, already own it, or know someone who does. News travels fast when a dress looks this good.
Almost every Who What Wear editor owns this collar. Not only that, but they wear it constantly. But we’re not the only ones. Structured chokers are really the only necklaces people are wearing right now apart from those of the heart-shaped variety. If I had to choose, though, this elevated style is far better.
This coat—designed by Hailey Bieber for fashion-favorite basics brand Wardrobe.NYC—is what dreams are made of. Already worn by Bieber herself, paired with a groutfit and sneakers, of course, the ultra-oversize, Polo-style silhouette is proving itself worthy of the price tag more and more each day.
A year ago, I wouldn’t have dared to say footed leggings, let alone a footed, leggings bodysuit, was year-defining. But with the no-pants trend thriving and Kim Kardashian’s obsession with pantaleggings in 2022, it appears that my position on the silhouette is shifting.
Last year it was the Tank, this year, the Panthère. Cartier’s gorgeous timepiece might be trending in 2023, but don’t expect it to go “out” anytime soon. Timeless and classic, you can own it forever. And if you’re anything like Nicola Peltz, you’ll invest in a second one and wear them together.
Once I saw one person wearing silver ballet flats on Instagram (hers were J.Crew and are now sold out), I started seeing them everywhere. And while ubiquity can oftentimes turn me off, this is one shoe trend I’m all for matching, well, everyone in.
Stop what you’re doing and get in on the madness surrounding Fancí, otherwise known as Fancí Club, designer Khanh Duy Tran’s Vietnam-based dress brand that’s already been spotted on Elsa Hosk and Hailey Bieber. Wildly enough given the hype surrounding the label and how difficult it is to get your hands on one of its pieces, although, a handful of them are on sale right now at Ssense.
