KartRider: Drift – Five Tips On Getting Started

KartRider: Drift has recently debuted with its official preseason on PC and mobile devices and is expected to arrive on consoles from Season 1, starting at a later date. The title, developed by Nexon, is a fast-paced arcade racing game that heavily focuses on drifting and features different modes. These include Item and Speed, which let you play against other users; Time Attack, to practice and try to achieve the best time on a track; and the License mode, which will test your true skills with various challenges.

Even though the game is pretty straightforward from the initial login, some tips and tricks will help you get the best out of your driving career in KartRider: Drift. You can find them below.

Earn every License

When you first access the game, you will be able to learn the basics of the title with a brief tutorial. What KartRider: Drift doesn’t explicitly tell you in this starting lesson, however, is that you can unlock new tracks by earning Licenses. Three different Licenses are currently available: B2, B1, and L3. These include specific challenges that will put a strain on your driving skills but also help you master the drifting technique.

Each time you earn a License, you will unlock new, more entertaining circuits to speed around with your kart. They feature trickier turns, shortened straights, and dangerous cliffs, and you need to be an absolute drift master to complete and win these races, especially for L3 tracks.

Practice with Time Attack

Time Attack is a useful mode, as it allows you to practice on every circuit and become familiar with turns, understand the right trajectory to follow, and when to perform drifts. It also marks an excellent opportunity to improve in the game, as you will see your best time for each track and will be able to choose whether to enable the shadow racer. Rankings with results by other players are also displayed, and you can always check them for an overview of the best performances within your region, platform, or overall.

And if you feel confident enough, you can test yourself in the Ranked Challenge, competing against other skilled players’ shadow racers on your preferred circuits.

Login daily

KartRider: Drift features a Daily Reward system that grants you one item each day you login into the game. If you remember to open the game every day, you will be able to gain new emojis and Lucci, which are the standard in-game currency. With that, you can buy new skins for your driver and your kart, decals, emojis, and more in the Shop. The Daily Rewards follow a specific progression and won’t last forever, so make sure you access the game daily if you want to get them all. KartRider: Drift lets you sync your account progressions on different platforms, so you can download the game on mobile and log in to claim your item, even if you won’t race from a smartphone but only from your PC.

Use the Instant Boost

The Instant Boost is an excellent addition to the game, but it takes some time to be fully mastered. It allows you to gain an extra speed boost that will only last a few instants but can make the difference between a victory and a defeat in tough races. Therefore, it is crucial to learn how to use this game mechanic properly. The Instant Boost can only be activated after you successfully perform a drift and counter-steer. On PC, you need to release and then press the accelerate button again; on mobile, you will find a dedicated button.

Alternatively, you can activate the Auto-Instant Boost driving aid from the main menu, but remember that you won’t have it enabled on all modes. Therefore, learning how to use it is the best way to achieve a good performance in every race. While you make your way through the various Licenses, you will find some tutorials and challenges that will further explain how the Instant Boost works.

Kart customizations are purely cosmetic

Any kart customizations are purely cosmetic in the game. This means you can freely edit your kart’s look and choose the one you prefer without compromising your results. There are no pay-to-win options in KartRider: Drift, so it all falls on your driving skills. You can apply decals, change the wheels and the license plate, and more. The driver can also be freely selected and won’t impact your performance. You can choose between many different characters and their alternative models.
