Intel’s 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs are expected to launch later this year, targeting the mobility platform first. The chips are going to be the first to leverage chiplet technology and a hybrid x86 core architecture.
Intel Reportedly Targeting Over 50% Performance Per Watt Improvement With 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs
‘Based on information shared by a highly credible leaker and insider, OneRaichu, is stated that the 14th Gen Intel Meteor Lake CPUs are targetting some big performance and efficiency gains. Intel’s 14th-Gen Meteor Lake CPUs are going to feature a brand new core architecture for both P-Cores & E-Cores and while the hybrid implementation is intact, the CPU itself will make use of several other IPs that will be fused together via multiple chiplets.
About iGPU, I think it maybe will reach almost 2x perf levels. (128EU@2.0+GHz VS 96EU)

The Intel 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs are said to target mobility first and while there was a desktop lineup planned, those plans are rumored to have been changed. But coming back to the details, the Meteor Lake CPUs are said to be targetting a performance per watt (efficiency) increase of over 50 percent versus the existing generation. This is definitely a major increase in efficiency as AMD’s Zen 4 architecture delivered a >25% performance per watt increase when it launched last year. The perf per watt for Raptor Lake (Raptor Cove + Gracemont) is used for comparison against Meteor Lake & using a similar core processor.
But that’s not all, the leaker also points out that Intel’s Meteor Lake CPUs might get twice the GPU performance boost thanks to the new tGPU or Tiled-GPU architecture which will incorporate new Xe GPU cores. The specific configuration is said to include 128 Execution units running at over 2.0 GHz clock speeds.
As Raja Koduri states, the Meteor Lake CPUs will be utilizing a tiled Arc graphics-powered GPU which will make it an entirely new class of graphics on a chip. It’s neither an iGPU nor a dGPU & currently regarded as tGPU (Tiled GPU / Next-Gen Graphics Engine). The Meteor Lake CPUs will utilize the brand-new Xe-HPG graphics architecture, allowing for increased performance at the same level of power efficiency as existing integrated GPUs. This will also enable enhanced support for DirectX 12 Ultimate and XeSS, features that are only supported by the Alchemist lineup as of right now.
A 2x performance gain and all those juicy features might give some heated competition to AMD’s RDNA 3 GPUs in the same integrated space. NVIDIA might also face further pressure from the ever-evolving integrated GPU market with both AMD & Intel delivering big-gen-over-gen gains in the space.

According to Intel, the 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs will feature a brand new tiled architecture, and what this basically means is that the company has decided to go full-on chiplet. There are 4 main tiles on the Meteor Lake CPUs. There’s the IO Tile, the SOC Tile, the GFX Tile & the Compute Tile. The Compute Tile comprises the CPU Tile and GFX Tile. The CPU Tile will be making use of a new hybrid core design consisting of Redwood Cove P-Cores and Crestmont E-Cores, delivering higher-performance throughput at lower power.
Intel reaffirmed during its recent earnings call that the company will ramp up the production of its Meteor Lake CPUs in 2H 2023 so expect more news later this year.
