The latest GPU market statistics from Board Channels suggest that GPU shipments in China declined by 42% compared to last year.
China Sees Slight Uptick In GPU Shipments Versus Last Month But Overall Market Sees A 42% Decline Versus The Previous Year
China is a huge market for GPUs, in fact, most of the GPUs are assembled and manufactured within China and as such, they are one of the largest consumers of these products. But the past few years haven’t been kind to the Chinese GPU market due to the global economic situation, pandemic, and supply chain issues including various tech-specific bans imposed on the country. Also, factor in the recent Chinese New Year’s holiday which further pushed those numbers down.
As per the report, China’s GPU shipments which mainly include AIBs, were down by 42% and this is the same decline rate reported by Jon Peddie Research but that includes all kinds of GPUs. Now the shipments did see a slight uptick of 9% compared to the previous month (December 2022) which is due to various offloading deals at retailers.
Almost all major brands operate in China but Colorful came out at the top and was in the green which might be supported by the fact that Colorful operates through China and has a stronghold on the Chinese GPU market.
Following are ASUS, Gigabyte & MSI, otherwise known as the big three and they didn’t do as well as Colorful compared to their previous year’s shipments. GALAX fared a little better than the other AIBs with an overall shipment increase over the previous year and so did Maxsun however their overall shipments are less than a quarter of Colorful’s. Finally, we have the Gainward and ZOTAC numbers which also saw a slight decrease in GPU shipments. The Channels report that the worst has now passed and GPU manufacturers are expecting shipments to bounce back in February & the rest of this year with more mainstream options coming to the market soon and better deals on existing product lineup.
