Latest Resident Evil 4 Remake PS5 Update 1.002 Seemingly Aims to Address Flickering Lights Issue

Capcom has rolled out Resident Evil 4 Remake PS5 update 1.002 over the weekend, although official patch notes haven’t been shared just yet.

The new patch came out this weekend for Sony’s current-gen console, and from the looks of it, this update aims to fix a PS5-specific issue that caused the flickering lights at the bottom of the screen. Last week, Capcom already shared that the team is aware of this flickering issue on Sony’s console, and promised a future update. Aside from promising a fix for this annoying issue, Capcom advised players on PlayStation 5 to disable the ‘Depth of Field’ option in the game’s display settings on PS5. In addition, the team recommended enabling ‘Motion Blur’ in the camera tab settings.

“We’re aware of an issue where players may experience flickering lights at the bottom of the screen when playing the PS5 version of Resident Evil 4”, last week’s tweet from the official Resident Evil Twitter account reads. The development team added, “We intend to fix the issue in a future update and apologize for any inconvenience!”

As patch notes for this new update haven’t been shared just yet, we don’t know for sure if this new patch addresses this flickering lighting issue on PlayStation 5, but since this new update hasn’t been made available for the other platforms, it appears that this PS5-only update aims to address this bug.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is available now for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. As can be read in our launch review, Capcom has done a great job remaking this 2005 classic. Going by comparison videos, the game is very well optimized across all platforms with the PS5 version benefiting from somewhat better performance than its Xbox Series X counterpart. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X version seemingly offers a higher average resolution than the PS5 version.
