The Witcher 3 next-gen introduced, among many other things, ray tracing features that are quite demanding and can cause memory leak issues that force the user to quit and restart the game to restore performance to acceptable levels. A new mod that was released online addresses this issue while also improving performance with ray tracing on.
The Memory Leak Fix mod, which can be downloaded right now from Nexus Mods, is a simple .ini tweak that prevents massive stuttering and performance drops once VRAM usage exceeds 95% usage with ray tracing. A similar fix was available only for NVIDIA GPUs by changing Anisotropic Filtering to x16 and LOD bias to Clamp on the Control Panel, but thanks to this small tweak, the same fix is available for AMG GPUs as well. As shown in a comparison screenshot, there’s a small drop in texture quality, but this could be a worthy price to pay for improved ray tracing performance.
While CD Projekt Red may not have fixed this issue yet, the developer has been hard at work since the release of The Witcher 3 next-gen update to fix a variety of other issues and improve performance on all formats. Last week, a new hotfix went live on PC to fix some NVIDIA DLSS3 stability issues while a much bigger patch went live earlier this month on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles introducing CPU optimizations on PC, performance mode improvements on current generation consoles, and more.
The Witcher 3 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch worldwide.
