Apple Working on a New OLED MacBook Air Model With a Smaller 13.4-Inch Display

Apple is planning to bring OLED display technology to its iPad Pro and MacBook lineup in the future. We have previously heard that the company is working on an OLED MacBook Air and the OLED MacBook Pro. It was speculated earlier that Apple would update the 13.6-inch M2 MacBook Air with an OLED panel but the latest suggests that the company is also working on another variant. According to a prominent analyst, Apple is working on a new OLED MacBook Air model with a slightly smaller 13.4-inch display.

Apple will launch a new variant of the MacBook Air with a slightly smaller 13.4-inch OLED display

Apple launched the redesigned MacBook Air in June of last year with an M2 chip and a bigger 13.6-inch display. The new model featured a bigger display compared to the 13.3-inch M1 MacBook Air. Now, display analyst Ross Young states in a tweet with his super followers that Apple will launch a new 13.4-inch model of the MacBook Air with an OLED display. The machine will sit in the middle of the previous and the new model in terms of display size.

As for the time frame, the analyst did not mention any exact details on the release of the 13.4-inch OLED MacBook Air. However, Young previously stated that Apple plans to launch the iPad Pro models and MacBook Air models with an OLED panel sometime next year. As for the MacBook Pro models, Apple will wait until 2026. At this point, Apple’s display partners are developing OLED panels for the iPad Pro.

Apart from this, Apple is also working on a new 15-inch MacBook Air which is slated to launch later this year. The company could also unveil the machine at its WWDC 2023 event on June 5. Take note that the design of the machine will be the same as the 13.6-inch variant but with a bigger display and battery. If the news has any heft to it, Apple seems to be expanding its MacBook Air lineup, offering the notebook in three different sizes – 13.4-inch, 13.6-inch, and 15-inch. However, it is also not clear if the 13.4-inch model will replace the current model.

OLED panels on a MacBook are far better than LCD panels in terms of power efficiency and better color accuracy. It will not only extend the MacBook Air’s battery life but offer deeper blacks and more saturated colors. Nonetheless, take the news with a pinch of salt since the final word rests with Apple. We will update you guys as soon as further details are available.
