If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from working in fashion over the years, it’s that a good body of basics is everything when it comes to building a successful wardrobe. Finding said basics is, however, easier said than done, and for many fashion editors, when they unearth their holy-grail jeans/sneakers/white T-shirt, it remains a steadfast staple for many years to come. I can’t say that I’ve managed to meet my sartorial life partners in many areas of my wardrobe quite yet, but the white T-shirt is one category that I have conquered.
Lorna wears the Arket crew-neck T-shirt.
It might come as a surprise to some to know that my perfect white T-shirt comes from none other than high-street fave Arket. But then again, since its inception, it is a brand that has aced it in the high-quality-basics stakes, with premium-feel fabrics at reasonable prices. The brand’s crew-neck T-shirt ticks all the boxes: It’s not see-through, it has a high neckline and boxy fit, and it’s fitted across the shoulders but loose over the hips.
Best of all? It comes in at only £17. Not too shabby. I have worn mine with everything from tailored trousers at fashion week to spring-ready denim and sandals. It is truly a multitasking hero. I’ve even converted my practical-minded husband to buy the men’s version, which is just as good. I can also recommend the brand’s heavyweight version if you prefer your T-shirt to have a thicker material, and of course, they all come in other colours too (thirteen other colours to be precise). Have I convinced you yet? Scroll down to see and shop Arket’s perfect white T-shirt—you won’t regret it.
