Banana Milk Is The Unlikely Colour Trend That’s Taking Off

Evoking imagery of pale daffodils, silky custard, and banana milkshakes; the smooth pale yellow trend, hailed as banana milk has been cropping up all around us, in the form of sweeping dresses, light linens and all things outerwear.

Though you might quietly cringe at the thought of styling a yellow outfit, it is after-all, not often praised for its ability to flatter—banana milk’s soft tone is no far stretch from the tan or beige hues that we’ve been reaching for for decades. You may even recall that this range of washed-out yellows had another moment in the sun earlier in the summer, when multiple high-profile guests, including Pippa Middleton and Queen Rania of Jordan, attended the Coronation wearing it.

Perhaps the millennials retort to zingy Gen Z yellow, the softer shade is notably more in line with the essence of old favourite, millennial pink. The colour is easy to style with similarly neutral tonal shades including white, brown and warm-orange, as well as denim. We’ve witnessed street style types committed wholeheartedly to the hue as well, wearing it head-to-toe in the way one might with camel or beige.

It lends itself perfectly to summer styling, but we predict the shade will continue to build into autumn and winter, as we allow ourself to experiment with more layers and start to take note of the AW23 runways where it was a documented colour trend at Givenchy, Tove and many other brands. It does, surprisingly, go with black, so there’s plenty of mileage for it as we head into the colder months.
