According to Dior’s Beauty Pro, This Is How to Do Makeup For Almond Eyes

If you’ve read our guide to different eye shapes, then you’ll know that when it comes to eye makeup, it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you have hooded eyes or round eyes, you can always adapt makeup looks to make them work best for you, but sometimes it can be difficult to work out exactly how to do this. That’s where we come in.

As junior beauty editor at Who What Wear UK, I am lucky enough to speak to a range of talented makeup artists on a daily basis who are experts in their field, and find out all of the makeup tips and tricks that you want to know. Recently, my friend with almond-shaped eyes asked me how she could tailor her makeup to help accentuate her eye shape, so I reached out to none other than Dior Makeup UK Pro Artist, Jamie Coombes, to find out everything there is to know about almond eyes.

As explained by Coombes, “almond eyes are typically oval-shaped with elongated narrow corners.” This eye shape is usually quite balanced and symmetrical, so Coombes says that they can suit most eye makeup looks, from feline eyes to bright and colourful eyeshadows. That being said, I asked Coombes to share his top three eye makeup looks for almond eyes, so keep on scrolling to find out exactly how to recreate each one.

First up is a shimmery eyeshadow look. This works well for almond-shaped eyes as it can add a lot of dimension to your makeup. “My favourite way to create this look is to apply a wash of colour all over the eyelid, and blend it up to the eye socket,” explains Coombes. “Then, add a wash of shimmer in the centre of the eyelid. You can use any shade for this, but I recommend using colours accordingly to your eye colour, whether you want to create a contrasting look or tone on tone.”

Coombes recommends starting off with a subtle colour like this one from Dior to apply all over the lid.

Then, add a more statement, shimmery eyeshadow to the centre. I’m loving this shade from Victoria Beckham Beauty for autumn and winter.

Winged eyeliner looks amazing on almond-shaped eyes, and Coombes is a big fan of this look. “You can wear any liner (pencil, liquid or gel) depending on personal preference or style. You have free rein of creation. However, my favourite way to apply liner on almond-shaped eyes is a winged liner. I use the Diorshow On Stage Liner as it always elongates the eyes.”

This Dior eyeliner is great for creating a sharp wing thanks to the thin, pointed applicator.

I also love this brown one from Kvd Beauty if I want a slightly warmer look.

A smokey eye will never go out of style, however Coombes says that this is his favourite look this season for almond-shaped eyes. The great thing about this look is that it really accentuates almond-eye shapes. To help the narrow corners look even more elongated, you can blend your eyeshadow up into a winged shape for that lifted finish.

Price shown is members’ price. This palette from Beauty Pie has all the colours you need for the perfect smokey eye.

Finish the look with a black eye pencil and smudge it out slightly for that smokey effect.
