Fashion month has finally drawn to a close and it has been nothing short of excellence—from the fashion-forward silhouettes of Scandinavian brands showcased at Copenhagen Fashion Week and the exuberance of Haute Couture to the Paris Fashion Week runways. I was lucky enough to experience some outstanding pieces in the flesh, many of which I’ve added to my imaginary wish list. I’ve come back down to earth and drawn my attention to the slew of A/W that’s been landing in the new-in sections and my goodness have they been good.
While I’ve been squeezing the last drops out of summer and donning carefree frocks when the sun rears its head, now is the best time to start evaluating your clothes for the upcoming seasons as for the majority of us, chilly temperatures await. At the first glimpse of autumn, I turn my attention to the conviviality of Christmas on the horizon (I may have a slight penchant for the festivities) and how I can make my wardrobe more weather-appropriate. Typically my colour pallet deepens and becomes awash with richer tones but this year, I’ve thrown in some wildcards in the form of a buttery hue (more on that below) and I also turn my attention to the power of outerwear, layering pieces and jewels aplenty (my moto – pile them high). Fear not, fellow lovers of dresses, short sleeves can be swapped for their lengthier counterparts which is no task given the elongated length trend and it may soon be time to refresh the hosiery draw.
The cusp of seasons is also a playful time for fashion. There’s something directional about mixing textures whilst the weather still calls for it too. Contrary to popular belief, I don’t believe it’s time to pack linens away just yet. Instead, pair them with hardened and silken textures to make the most out of your wardrobe. Hot on the tail of 2022’s chicest cape coats, 2023 brings us an array of wool rich styles —proving the longstanding (and not to mention practical) appeal of these styles.
The boxy shape, plush velvet and polished gold lock is very vintage inspired.
While I’ve admired 90s silhouttes from afar, I’ve felt emboldebed when trying some of these styles for myself this season and Realisation Par is always the first retailer I visit when looking for these styles. The cut, barely-there fabrications and gauze overlays haven’t seen them replicated this expertly. If you told me this was noughties vintage, I would believe you.

I fell in love with the Lois dress earlier this year and it’s now available to purchase. This mellow, sunshine hue is a key colourway for A/W 2024. The generous burst of colour is bound to brighten up typically moody winter palettes.
At first glance this piece may look unassuming but it’s the exact accessory that’s inspiring me this season. A huge marker for 2023 has been the celebration of accessories and fashion ‘add-ons’. Identity Lingerie is a slow-batch company producing silky pyjamas and hair accessories. This fashion season, Schiaparelli showcased the bandaged hairstyle synonymous with the African technique of threading. You can achieve said style with this headband!
In the name of 2023’s most lauded forecasts, ruched silhouettes are bandied once more. Wear these styles with loud jewellery to channel an ’80s exhuberance.
These silhouettes are impressive as they’re easy to wear and comprised of supple fabrications, yet they boast a sleek appeal that you can adapt to most situations — from work to out-of-office daywear.
Perhaps it’s a result of the sculpted heel, colourway or coin medallions but there’s an undeniable Grecian lilt to these sandals.
No outfit is complete without a glossy lacquer in my humble opinion and Les Filles en Rouje’s lip oil is a mirrored, madeleine-tasting dream.
My love of linen knows no bounds and Dissh’s linen is tried and tested in my wardrobe.
Although Posse is best known for its summer styles, keep your eyes peeled for this autumnal offering with a matching skirt.
I’m always taken with the everyday jewels that become synonymous with a persons being. A necklace that rarely leaves the neck, or rings that are almost adhere to peoples fingers – take Carrie Bradshaw’s name necklace. I ‘m now privileged enough to have my very own quartz encrusted ring.
Cardigans are becoming more and more directional per season and Jigsaw’s iteration is incredibly sleek (peep the hammered metallic buttons). Pair this with bold earrings to match, sleek tailored trousers and mules, et voila.
A top-handle bag in what I’ve deemed a conker brown lacquer. The gold hardware makes this style pop.
Dare I say it but party season is on the horizon, so it’s not too soon to start thinking of slinky shapes and feather trims. This Gilda & Pearl dress is a worthy mention because not only is it a figure forming cut but it’s also formed from 100% silk, whereas many of its slip counterparts on the market are made its less environmentally sound alternative, polyester.
This season I witnessed Manu Atelier up close and personal and the brand is nothing short of impressive. From the endearing family-inspired model, to the considered fabrications and subdued touched, it’s an accessory brand that should be on everyone’s radar for autumn and beyond.
Length, tick. Ruffles, tick, drama, tick. Franks’ latest collection boasts so much character and and both Victoriana and gothic elements. This is the dream winter frock.
We’ve heard many a (fashion) cry for the whipstich coat and The White Company has delivered a keeper. Comprising 100% wool and a delicate contrasting trim, it’s a piece that you’ll be excited to be reunited with each autumn/winter.
