Where fragrance is concerned, 2023 will be a tough year to top with its senses-delighting launches, but 2024 is already shaping up to be another big year for perfumes, colognes and everything in between.
Last year, vanilla perfumes went viral, niche scents were on the rise and old fave fragrances were reimagined. So far this year, perfumers like YSL and Ellis Brooklyn have translated fashion trends to fragrance, bottling up the colours du jour (read: red and peach) and presenting new ways to wear them. Others like Armani and Viktor & Rolf have revamped their signature scents. Suffice it to say, we’ll be spoiled by choice with an influx of new fragrances to shop from as the months roll on.
Follow along as we break down the best new perfumes that’ll define 2024.
Acne Studios Par Frédéric Malle
Introducing Acne Studios Par Frédéric Malle, the avant-garde perfume that smells of sparkling aldehydes, floral orange blossom and sweet peach and vanilla. An iconic collaboration between the Swedish fashion house and the Parisian perfumer, this vibrant fragrance is described as the “first gourmand aldehydic.”
Filled with contrasting notes that wear like a bright burst of fresh air, Acne Studios Par Frédéric Malle is a stunning reflection of both brands and their desire to craft a “radically new aesthetic” through the creation of multidisciplinary art.
Cosmic Kylie Jenner
Fragrance fanatics will forever remember 2024 as the year Kylie Jenner dropped her first-ever fragrance, Cosmic Kylie Jenner. An amber meets floral skin-inspired scent, Cosmic smells just as divine as you’d expect from the looks of its sculptural pink bottle.
“I wanted it to be fresh yet sweet and to smell ‘out of this world,’ and to feature some of my favourite notes including star jasmine and vanilla musk,” reveals the beauty mogul in a press release. Mission accomplished, Miss Jenner!
Carolina Herrera Good Girl Blush Elixir
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (and to be honest, possibly not even then), you’re well-aware of the wild success of Carolina Herrera’s Good Girl and Good Girl Blush fragrances. PerfumeTok can’t get enough of the high heel-shaped bottles and the deliciously sweet scents they house.
The latest addition to the family, Good Girl Blush Elixir, is an intense blend of rose, vanilla and smoky patchouli. The eau de parfum is a sensual, woody floral that’s seriously addictive. The stiletto’s still got it. —Souzan Michael Galway
Dior Miss Dior Parfum
You may think you know Dior’s iconique Miss Dior fragrance, but the launch of Miss Dior Parfum has breathed new life into the French fashion house’s signature scent.
In this new adaptation crafted by Francis Kurkdjian, contrasting floral, fruity and woody notes combine to create a more modern scent. Think addictive jasmine and delectable wild strawberries paired with clean patchouli and Alaskan cedar. It’s reinvention done right.
Calvin Klein Eternity Aromatic Essence
Backed by Hollywood heartthrob Idris Elba, Calvin Klein’s Eternity Aromatic Essence For Men is the latest fragrance to join the brand’s Eternity family. Noted with fresh juniper and a creamy coconut accord, this bold scent instantly inspires feelings of seduction, sensuality, and desire.
Marc Jacobs Daisy Wild
Marc Jacobs’ Daisy Wild Eau de Parfum is the fresh spring scent that invites its wearers to embrace their wild side and reconnect with nature through fragrance.
Banana blossom, jasmine, and vetiver notes emerge from the little green bottle decorated with signature Daisy stems and flowers bloom — reminiscent of the wildflower bouquets that come to mind upon spritzing the scent.
The Maker Lover
Hailing from The Maker Hotel in Hudson, New York, The Maker is a luxury lifestyle brand with a gender-inclusive fragrance line that just landed at Sephora Canada.
Among the seven new-to-Canada scents is Lover, a warm and woody fragrance that smells of creamy sandalwood, juicy fig and a splash of oud. Needless to say, we’re in love.
Henry Rose Queens & Monsters
Michelle Pfeiffer’s genderless fine fragrance line Henry Rose has just arrived at Sephora Canada, and our favourite scent of the bunch is Queens & Monsters. Delightfully woody and provocative, it truly is a fragrance fit for queens.
“The idea was to create a concentrated woody fragrance that still showed a very fluid and multifaceted identity,” shares perfumer Pascal Gaurin in a press release. “It is a game of contrasts between brightness and sensuality, a dialogue between the sparkling, zesty, freshness of the petitgrain and the creamy, milky facet of the sandalwood.”
Dior New Look
New year, New Look! Inspired by Christian’s Dior iconic New Look silhouette from 1947, this amber-scented, unisex eau de parfum finds the perfect balance between freshness and sensuality. Featuring enigmatic notes of aldehyde and frankincense, this scent redefines what it means to smell like amber.
“True to Christian Dior who wanted his fragrances to be an olfactory mirror of his couture, I strove to retain this perfect symbiosis between fashion and fragrance with incredible daring,” says Francis Kurkdjian, creative director of parfums Dior on the brand’s website. “I wanted to create a fragrance that echoes the spirit, nuances and essence of the New Look today.”
Ellis Brooklyn Peaches
Smell sweet as a peach wearing Ellis Brooklyn’s Peaches Body Mist. Perfectly aligned with Pantone’s 2024 Colour of the Year, “Peach Fuzz,” this fragrance is bursting with juicy notes of sweet peach, orange flower, and sugared musk.
Remember those body sprays you’d spritz on to excess back in the day because they smelled so good? This scent is like that, but all grown up. It’s pure nostalgia in a bottle.
Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Over Red
YSL’s cult-loved Black Opium fragrance needs no introduction, but there’s a new interpretation of this scent you’ll want to get to know in 2024. Meet Black Opium Eau de Parfum Over Red. Still inclusive of the black coffee and white jasmine notes you know and love from the OG scent, Over Red opens up with a juicy new note you won’t be able to get enough of.
“For this new opus we wanted to take the Black Opium signature into a new universe,” shares master perfumer Natalie Lorson in a press statement. “The iconic coffee floral signature turns red with a unique ingredient: the cherry accord.” Talk about putting the cherry on top.
Killian Paris Born to Be Unforgettable
If the name “Born to be Unforgettable” doesn’t instantly attract you to Killian Paris’ latest fragrance launch, allow us to elaborate further. At once citrusy, spicy, and sweet, this perfume leads with cinnamon nutmeg and vanilla notes for an overarching cola scent, and smells of cedarwood in the dry down.
Inspired by the feeling of that invigorating first sip of a fizzy cola, Born to be Unforgettable is unforgettable indeed.
Guerlain Neroli Plein Sud
Described by perfumer Delphine Jelk in conversation with FASHION’s beauty director Souzan Michael Galway, Guerlain’s new Neroli Plain Sud fragrance smells like a “fresh breeze blowing over the hot sand of the Sahara [desert].”
Materialized in a luxury perfume, that translates to notes of neroli (an essential oil derived from orange tree blossoms), married with turmeric, ginger and cinnamon. The latest addition to the L’art & La Matière collection, this perfume finds the perfect balance of warmth and spiciness.
Armani Beauty My Way Nectar
A delicious blend of flowers and fruits, Armani Beauty’s My Way Nectar eau de parfum is sure to become a staple spring scent. Putting a juicer spin on the original My Way perfume, this scent is for the floral fragrance fiends.
For long-lasting wear, spritz this perfume onto your wrists, neck, elbows and knees to leave behind a sweet trail of pear accord, tuberose, and intoxicating bourbon vanilla. And can we talk about this sparkling pink bottle?
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Tiger Lily
Got summertime on the mind? Slip into a sun-filled fantasy as you douse yourself in Viktor & Rolf’s Tiger Lily eau de parfum. Noted with creamy coconut milk accord, signature tiger lily accord and succulent mango accord, this scent screams summer.
Whether you wear it on its own or layered with your favourite scented body oil, it’ll be the fragrance you simply can’t put down when the weather warms up — or when you want to pretend it already has.
