War Room founder Steve Bannon talked with Joe Allen on Friday about the dangers of digital and AI replacing normal human relationships.
The video opens with a clip of a discussion of AI with Eric Schmidt. He had warned that people are not ready for AI to dominate government and society.
“I would love to say full stop on artificial intelligence, full stop on everything. I’d like to take just a complete time out, but unfortunately with our enemies and the Chinese Communist Party, we have no earthly idea how advanced this is,” Bannon commented.
Allen warned of how many people are substituting normal relationships and instead are using AI and technology as a way of escaping.
“What we are seeing is the rise of the sort of mass psychosis. People, not everyone I hope, but lots of people. Millions upon millions of people are completely detaching themselves from physical, and social and spiritual reality and syncing into these digital worlds,” Allen said.
“They all talk about the risks of what happens when you completely saturate a society with AI. When you begin tinkering with people’s brains indirectly and directly. When you begin tinkering with the genome. When you create and normalize humanoid and other types of robots and deploy them onto the wider society. They are always talking about well what happens if something goes wrong,” Allen said of tech concerns from guys like Bezos, Schmidt, and Musk.
Allen said that the most important thing that will protect people from the overuse of AI is individual people making wise decisions, especially since governments and corporations are rapidly developing the technology.
“At the end of the day, this is going to be about our choices, what we do as the wider populous, as the people. It’s not going to be something that is stopped by the government. These corporations are going to move ahead on it as fast as possible. And all of the talk about the concerns is really overshadowed by the desire for profit, for power, for influence. And AI and all these technologies below are seen as vehicles for profit and for power,” Allen said.
“The only sane response is going to come from individual people in the communities that they are embedded in try to bring back or sustain a lot of the traditional ways of learning, of acting in the world, of socializing, of doing business,” Allen continued.
“Humans have allowed the inhuman, the algorithm to run it and they can kind of game the algorithm to make sure that humans are at a disadvantage, or at least the perception of that,” Bannon commented.
