Joy Reid: Republicans Taught People the Word ‘Inflation,’ They Never Cared About it Before

MSNBC host Joy Reid believes the American people knew little about the concept of inflation until Republicans “taught people the word,” – which is apparently a nefarious undertaking meant to trick voters.

Reid, appearing as a guest on Thursday’s “Deadline: White House,” said the concept of inflation was something everyday individuals hardly ever spoke of.

“The only people I ever hear use the word ‘inflation’ are journalists and economists,” she claimed. “So, that is not part of the normal lexicon of the way people talk.”

She proceeded to suggest Republicans were teaching Americans about inflation because it benefits them politically.

“What they’ve [Republicans] done is they’ve taught people the word inflation,” she said.

“Most people who would’ve never used that word ever in their lives are using it now because they’ve been taught it, including on TV, including in newspapers,” added Reid. “They’ve been taught this word.”

Joy Reid: Americans Weren’t Bright Enough to Know What Inflation Was Until the GOP ‘Taught’ Them

The gall of somebody like Joy Reid looking down her nose and declaring the public was essentially too dumb to understand the concept of inflation until they were told by Republicans how bad it is.

Using a World Series analogy, most people don’t worry about bad umpiring until they see a bunch of bad calls that affect them and their team.

President Joe Biden and his administration are a bunch of bad umpires. And their bad calls on the economy are starting to affect team America.

People are noticing.

But as you may have guessed, Joy Reid wasn’t exactly being truthful.

Reid was ‘teaching’ Americans about inflation during a broadcast just last year, where she explained that the economy under Biden is doing great and that consumer spending goes hand-in-hand with inflation, something she described as “economics 101.”

In other words, you’re too ignorant to understand basic economic concepts, rube.

Constantly Downplays Inflation

This isn’t the first time Joy Reid has downplayed inflation, something polls have shown is a top concern amongst voters.

“Republicans jump on the inflation buzzword bandwagon, ignoring all the signs of America’s economic comeback,” she said introducing Elizabeth Warren for a segment last November.

“Republicans want you to believe the economy isn’t doing well, that’s terrible,” she continued. “But, in reality, unemployment is at its lowest point since before the pandemic began.”

Reality, one year later, shows inflation soared to 8.2 percent in September compared to last year, exceeding economists’ expectations and remaining at a near 40-year high.

The New York Times in 1982, the last time inflation rates were near levels that Biden has introduced, ran an article pointing out how the American people know the realities of inflation much better than the federal government.

The Times cited several people who were keen on the fact that prices were up and consumers were getting a “lesser grade” of products simply by being observant at the grocery store.

Reid recently concocted a conspiracy theory that the GOP was releasing “junk polls” in order to suppress the vote during the midterms and spur on the coming red wave.

“If you get past those headlines and dig a little deeper, you would uncover an insidious and seemingly intentional campaign from Republican-backed polling firms to flood the zone and tip the balance of polling averages in favor of their candidates,” said Reid.

The ‘insidious’ campaign is designed, she believes, “to create a narrative that Republicans are surging and that a red wave is imminent and inevitable.”
