Representative Matt Gaetz suggests Republicans will release an estimated 14,000 hours of tape from the January 6 riot that have remained “hidden.”
Gaetz’ comments came during a conversation with conservative commentator Charlie Kirk on his radio broadcast.
Kirk mentioned the new Church Committee being formed with Representative Thomas Massie playing an integral role. The original Church committee was formed in 1975 to study abuses in various intelligence departments, including the FBI, CIA, and IRS.
Kirk asked if the Florida congressman supports “allowing the dogs to be released” against a rogue intelligence community.
“Kevin McCarthy told us he is going to get the evidence out in front of the American people and that means releasing the 14,000 hours of tapes that have been hidden,” Gaetz replied.
Gaetz added that he believes doing so “would give more full context to that day rather than the cherry-picked moments the January 6th committee tried to use to inflame and further divide our country.”

January 6 Tapes to be Released?
If Gaetz is correct, then that means House Speaker Kevin McCarthy conceded to both demands made recently by Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Aside from the formation of the new Church Committee to study the FBI, Carlson said that in order to gain support of staunch conservatives in his bid to get the gavel he must release the January 6 tapes.
“Release the January 6 files — not some of the January 6 files and video, all of it,” Carlson demanded. “And not to some phony committee that will hide them, that in fact is designed to hide them from the public, but put them online.”
“Release them to the public directly so that the rest of us can finally know what actually happened on January 6, 2021. It’s been two years. It’s long overdue,” he continued. “It’s our right as Americans to know, and McCarthy could tell us.”
Now, it appears he actually may do this.
If Kevin McCarthy wants to be Speaker, he’s going to have to give his colleagues something real — actual concessions. He can start with these two things. pic.twitter.com/tzTajZjgaU

If Gaetz is correct and the tapes are released, the Committee is being formed, the IRS is defunded, etc., then he, Representative Lauren Boebert, and the other 20 who initially refused to vote for McCarthy will have been vindicated for their fight during the battle for Speaker.
It’s not likely McCarthy would have countered the select committee’s efforts by releasing footage if not for that fight. Footage that could exonerate those who did little more than walk through the Capitol that day.
Or would he have?

McCarthy told the January 6 Committee to Preserve Their Documents
Even prior to the intense negotiations for his new role as Speaker, McCarthy had expressed interest in investigating the highly-partisan January 6 select committee.
In December, the leader of the House Republicans sent a letter to January 6 Committee Chair Bennie Thompson telling the panel to preserve their documents.
“It is imperative that all information collected be preserved not just for institutional prerogatives but for transparency to the American people,” he said in the letter.
“The American people have a right to know that the allegations you have made are supported by the facts and to be able to view the transcripts.”

The panel did release the transcripts of interviews in their final report, but videos were used during their tenure in a highly coordinated production to paint a certain narrative.
The committee also used the evidence they had to specifically go after former President Donald Trump, intentionally burying the law enforcement failures aspect of the January 6 riot.
Perhaps the raw unedited video clips will lead to evidence that some protesters were over-pursued and over-charged for relatively minor roles that day. Perhaps it will reveal what informants for the FBI were doing in the crowd – and there were several.
Whatever happens, the American people will finally be able to see for themselves what transpired that day. Not just what the select committee wanted them to see.
Now is the time to support and share the sources you trust.
