CFD Gaming is one of the first manufacturers to launch its PCIe Gen 5.0 NVMe SSDs in the retail segment starting with the Japanese market. The specific SSD comes with an active cooler that is going to offer better cooling but will produce a very loud noise when it’s operating at its fullest potential.
CFD Gaming launches the first SSD to offer PCIe Gen 5.0 standards, which you have to hear to believe
Prominent Twitter leaker @momomo_us posted pictures of the CFD Gaming PCIe Gen 5.0 NVMe SSD running on an ASRock Z790 Steel Legend WIFI motherboard with an Intel Core i7-13700K CPU.
What was uploaded to Twitter was a video of the SSD running at extremely high speeds and also producing a loud noise. With the new PCIe Gen 5.0 SSDs, we are seeing many companies ship the drives with active cooling attached due to the amount of heat produced by the device. What was not anticipated was how loud the fan would be, as demonstrated below.

Users should remember that the sound would not be constant and only noticeable during file transfers. However, that could also be a deal breaker for some consumers. Momomo_US also showed pictures of the heatsink disassembled. The fan is rated to operate at 21,000 rotations per minute (RPM), producing sounds at a decibel of 21.5 dBa and running at 5V.
Regarding performance, the CFD Gaming PCIe Gen 5.0 NVMe SSD was tested in CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4 Shizuku Edition, an open-source drive benchmark tool from the company Crystal Dew World based on Microsoft’s Diskspd tool. The software performs read/write processes throughout the filesystem and produces random and sequential results.

In the test, the new CFD 2TB NVMe SSD with a cooling fan reads/writes at over 10 GB/s sequential speeds, which is what was advertised by the manufacturer. The new CFD Gaming M.2 SSD PCIe Gen 5.0 SSD is only available in Japanese markets for ¥49,980, which converts to roughly $350. Later this year, the company will release 1TB and 4TB models for consumers, but the date and pricing are currently unknown.
