Uber updates Its app with support for Live Activities on iPhone, Uber Eats to follow “in coming months”
Uber has been testing Apple’s Live Activities API for months now and it has finally updated the app with the feature intact. If you regularly use Uber on your iPhone, you will now be able to track your rides on the Lock Screen. If you are not familiar with the feature, Live Activities was introduced alongside iOS 16, allowing users to track events right on the Lock Screen. If you happen to own the latest iPhone 14 Pro models, Uber’s Live Activities will also take advantage of the new Dynamic Island.
Uber’s adoption of Live Activities will enable users to track the progress of their ride at a glance. This will save time as you would not have to open the app to check for an update. As for what information will be displayed on the Lock Screen, you can check the updated ETA, and trip status, along with the vehicle’s description and plate number.
While Uber’s Live Activities adoption is now available, the company will also update the Uber Eats application for food deliveries in the coming months, according to a company spokesperson. Live Activities is one of the forward-facing additions part of iOS 16 that aims to make things easier for the general public. Companies are working with developers to bring support for the new API on iPhone soon, Google Maps for instance.
