Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the new game from acclaimed Batman Arkham developers Rocksteady Studios, arrives in just a few months, and yet, fans have been kept largely in the dark. Some cinematics and a bit of touched-up pseudo gameplay are all we’ve been shown… until now. During the latest PlayStation State of Play, Sony and Warner Bros. Interactive rolled out several minutes of honest-to-god Suicide Squad gameplay which is looking pretty promising.
Our first taste of Suicide Squad footage centers on a battle between the team, a Brainiac-corrupted Flash and a big, city-stomping robot. The game’s combat looks impressive, as it combines shooting, melee, and traversal skills, with your Squad members bounding around the environment and from target to target effortlessly. Each of the game’s playable characters (Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark) look unique, and, of course, everything can be played co-op, so you can figure out which characters work best together with your friends. And here are some more details from the folks at Rocksteady…
Now, the part that will likely spark some controversy – as confirmed in the video aboe, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will have a full array of weapons and gear to collect and equip, which will affect your Gear Score. You’ll essentially be locked out of higher-level missions until you raise your Gear Score enough. The game will also have a cosmetic-only battle pass and Rocksteady is promising to add new characters, missions, and more down the line. So, yes, this game is getting the full live service treatment. Haven’t been keeping up with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League? Here’s the game’s official description…
“Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a new genre-bending action-adventure shooter that can be played solo or with up to four players in online co-op. Based on iconic DC characters and developed by Rocksteady Studios, creators of the Batman: Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League combines the studio’s signature character-driven story gameplay with third-person shooter action to deliver a gaming experience unlike any other.
Featuring an original narrative set in the DC universe, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League takes place in a richly detailed open-world Metropolis. The story follows Suicide Squad members Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark who must take on an impossible mission to save Earth and kill the world’s greatest DC Super Heroes, The Justice League. Restrained with lethal explosives implanted in their heads, all four DC Super-Villains have no choice but to band together and carry out this untenable assignment as part of Amanda Waller’s infamous Task Force X. Fans can tailor their experience, whether playing on their own as a single player, switching between characters at will, or teaming up with friends in multiplayer co-op.”
