NVIDIA’s partners are getting ready to bring small but effective price cuts to clear off some existing GeForce GTX 16 & RTX 30 series GPU inventory.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 & GeForce GTX 16 Series GPUs Getting Price Cuts This Month But Not By A Lot
According to reports from APAC-based Channel Analysts, it looks like the demand for mainstream and older graphics cards is hitting rock bottom and there are still some NVIDIA partners that have excess inventory of older GPUs such as the GeForce GTX 16 and RTX 30 series. The report states it is expected that partners will be reducing the prices by a small margin to address the low demand.
MyDrivers reports that these won’t be major price cuts by any means and will actually be around 30-50 Yuan which is close to $10 US. The card that will mostly benefit from this cut will be the GTX 1650 and also the GTX 1630 which are placed in the entry-level segment and still a highlight when their popularity is compared to other GPUs. Just yesterday, we reported how the GeForce GTX 1650 remains the most popular gaming GPU on the Steam Hardware Survey database.
The rest of the mainstream lineup which included the GTX 1660, GTX 1660 Ti, GTX 1660 SUPER, and the RTX 2060 series has mostly been cleared out in terms of inventory. So that leaves the GeForce GTX 16 series and the few RTX 30 series mainstream cards which need to be cleared off shelves. It may also explain why NVIDIA hasn’t released the RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 series yet. The RTX 3060 was recently upgraded to the new GDDR6X memory interface to offload the excess of GA104 and GA106 GPUs. There are chances that we might see some bigger price cuts around 100-150 RMB for the higher-end RTX 30 series cards but NVIDIA is worried about the inventory of its older high-end GPUs.
Gaming revenue of $1.83 billion was up 16% sequentially and down 46% from a year ago. Fiscal year revenue of $9.07 billion is down 27%. Sequential growth was driven by the strong reception of our 40 Series GeForce RTX GPUs based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. The year-on-year decline reflects the impact of channel inventory correction, which is largely behind us. And demand in the seasonally strong fourth quarter was solid in most regions. While China was somewhat impacted by disruptions related to COVID, we are encouraged by the early signs of recovery in that market.

In fact, during the recent NVIDIA earnings, the company cited that the impact of its GPU channel inventory correction is expected to end by the first half of the year and that it is largely behind them.
