Apple announced iOS 16 in June of last year with a plethora of front-facing features and changes. While the company just released iOS 16.4 to the public, it is never too early to start speculating what the next big update will have in store for users. Apple will host its WWDC event in June of this year and unveil iOS 17 along with other updates for its product lineup. It is now being reported that iOS 17 will be a major update considering the number of new features it will bring to the table. Check out what you should expect with iOS 17 and when Apple will potentially announce it.
iOS 17 to include some “nice to have” features as the company shifts strategy in the development process
Every year, Apple introduces new features on stage at the WWDC event and gradually rolls out updates throughout the year. While some updates are bigger than others, Apple also makes sure that its users enjoy a stable user experience with performance enhancements as well as fixes for bugs and issues. It was previously reported that iOS 17 will be a minor update over iOS 16 as it would mainly focus on stability and improvements with minor new features and changes. All in all, it was presumed to be an update with an emphasis on maintenance.
Well, it seems iOS 17 will be a major update after all as Apple is working on various front-facing additions that you should be looking forward to. According to Mark Gurman, Apple is adding new features to the mix as part of its new strategy that stretches away from solely focusing on stability and other improvements.
According to the industry analyst, iOS 17 will rock some “nice to have” features which include some of the most highly-requested additions. Take note that while the changes might not be as big as the new Home screen with widgets or the new Lock screen, it will have some notable upgrades to entice users. Gurman did not share the list of features that he believes will be part of the update at this point.
Take note that iOS 17 announcement is only a few months away and we will see the latest additions soon at the company’s WWDC event. Other than this, iOS 16 brought a fair share of new features but it lacked quality. Initially, the update was crawling with bugs and issues and Apple had to release subsequent updates to fix those issues. One of the major issues that I have personally experienced is unnecessary battery drainage and it took Apple months to fix.
Henceforth, while the company is adopting a new strategy to add new features to the mix, we are hopeful that developers will pay attention to under-the-hood bug fixes and performance enhancements as well. This is because a fluid user experience is what sticks to users. We will share more details on iOS 17 features as soon as further information is available.
