I’m an Editor Who’s Hard to Impress—9 New Pieces That Get a Yes From Me

I might be a fashion editor, but it might surprise you to learn that I don’t shop a whole lot. I know what you’re thinking; Isn’t that counterintuitive? I liken it to my friend who’s a baker and doesn’t eat much cake. It’s not that you don’t enjoy it—the opposite, in fact. The difference is that you don’t indulge in it for the sake of it.

For the last 10 years or so, fashion has been my livelihood and my greatest passion. I preview collections before they’re released, analyse the runways to pick out the need-to-know trends and scour new-in sections daily, all to bring you the very best that fashion has to offer. As a result, I’ve become very particular when shopping for myself. For one thing, I have to be in the right mood to shop. Shopping is a big part of my job, which can make doing it on my own time a chore. I also have to be willing to part with some cash. (I was raised to be very money-conscious.) Plus, my increased exposure to fashion means my taste has become all the more specific—something has to really impress me before I’m willing to invest in it. I’m picky, and I don’t care who knows it!

That’s not to say that everything I buy is an investment—at least, not in terms of cost. I love the high street, and in Britain, we have access to some of the best affordable brands in the world. Although I shop from it, I do so mindfully. And I apply that same mentality to any high-end purchases I’m considering. In the past, I’ve been swayed into purchasing on name alone, but in my tenure at Who What Wear, I’ve developed a thicker skin for designer pieces, which allows me to look past the gilded embossing and instead see the piece for what it is and determine whether it’s actually worth it.

As you can see, I’m very particular about the clothes I wear, the story they tell, and the impact they have on my life. So why not share my shopping picks with you? These are pieces even a perfectionist can’t find fault with. I hope you find something you like and can see yourself wearing for a long time.

After a few bright days, all I can think about is swishing around in this beautiful white dress.

I always gravitate towards simple sandals, and these are some of the sleekest I’ve seen this season. Not only do they look designer but the padded footbed makes them incredibly comfortable to wear. I should know—I’ve already ordered them.

Who What Wear UK’s Editor in Chief Hannah Almassi showed me this skirt set and, honestly, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.

The skirt comes in sizes 4 to 26.

I rarely wear minidresses but this style, with its asymmetric strap, gathered bodice, and chic khaki colour is enough to tempt me to do so.

This basket unlocks a new level of summer nostalgia for me. I can see myself using it for picnics, to carry towels to the beach, and to pick up rosé for balmy evenings in the garden.

These incredible teardrop earrings sold out in the silver colourway faster than I’ve ever seen earrings sell out. Now, they’re back, and I didn’t hesitate in adding them to my basket.

Turns out, summer is a yellow short from Sézane. This will make the perfect pairing for my collection of white blouses—just add a denim jacket and the above tan sandals.

Faithfull the Brand might be known for its zingy colours and prints but its quieter pieces, such as this black linen co-ord, are just as impactful. I can think of so many ways I’d style this button-up shirt in particular.

I have a serious weakness for white dresses, and this one is just perfect. Just wait until you see the back…

Dragon Diffusion bags never lose their appeal, and the brand’s latest Japan bag is sure to follow suit.

Of all the warm-weather suiting on the market, this & Other Stories blazer-and-trouser set is up there with the best of them,

I’ve seen this on someone in real life and it is stunning.

I’m living in my blue denim skirt from a previous edit right now, so I know this ecru number will be a useful addition to my wardrobe.

I’m in the market for easy, throw-on dresses; they don’t get better than this linen shift.

A leather jacket is the perfect transseasonal cover-up; this olive green style is unlike anything else I’ve seen.

Full skirting is my favourite trend this season, and Zara is nailing it with is midi line-up.

if you told me these were designer, I’d absolutely believe you. True to Mango form, they also come in versatile black.

Not only did this jumper make my wish list, but so did the matching skirt.

A really dreamy tote bag.

On the subject of skirts, this By Malene Birger number is going to be a hit this spring—I can feel it.

The perfect ballet flat doesn’t exi…

I’m picturing this with loose jeans and slingback heels.

I had to double take when I scrolled by this dress; what an understated classic.

Hair up, earrings on.

I’ve been patiently waiting for this beautiful top to restock. Mark my words—I won’t miss it this time around.

I don’t wear a lot of pink, but this beautiful blazer is convincing me to change that.

I live in jeans, and I’ve found my new favourite top to wear with them.

I already own one Dôen and love the quality and fit, so it makes sense that I’m also tempted by this delicate floral option.

I consider Neous’s Phoenix bag to be a timeless classic; one that’s instantly recognisable.

Call off the search—I’ve just found the perfect pair of Mary Janes.

I don’t know about you, but I’m still not ready to stop wearing comfortable, wide-leg trousers.

The cutest little spring jacket I’ve come across.

I missed out on COS’s best-selling denim skirt, I won’t make the same mistake with this perfect Arket style.

Ruching is a key dress trend this season, and this midi from Ninety Percent is one of the sleekest interpretations.

If it’s got stripes, I’ll always be interested.

I’m a sucker for knitted co-ords, and this is easily one of the best I’ve seen.

The fluid shape of this skirt will hang beautifully on the body.

I’ve been seeing Polène bags cropping up all over the place lately (most recently on Kate Middleton). This is the one I have my eye on.

I have an early spring wedding to go to, so I’ve been on the hunt for a chic knitted dress that strikes the balance between being cosy and chic. I think I just found it.

I have a serious soft spot for pearls so, naturally, I’m desperate to add this chunky necklace to my jewellery box.

I’ve never spent money on a decent belt, but this Toteme style might just tempt me to do so. I’m picturing it buckled over a blazer and tailored trousers.

Part of H&M’s Premium edit, this chic blazer is made from an elevated wool blend.

I swear, this is going to be the bag of spring/summer 2023.
