Trump releases new video says he’s being hospitalized so that ‘things work out’ after COVID-19 diagnosis

• President Donald Trump said he’s being hospitalized for further monitoring and treatment for COVID-19 to “make sure things work out.” 
• On Friday afternoon, Trump headed to Walter Reed Hospital after testing positive for the disease earlier.
• “I’m going to Walter Reed Hospital: I think I’m doing very well, but we’re going to make sure that things work out. The first lady is doing very well,” he said in a video posted to Twitter.

President Donald Trump said he’s being hospitalized for further monitoring and treatment for COVID-19 to “make sure things work out.” 

“I want to thank everybody for the tremendous support,” Trump said in a video posted to Twitter. “I’m going to Walter Reed Hospital: I think I’m doing very well, but we’re going to make sure that things work out. The First Lady is doing very well, so thank you very much, I appreciate it, I will never forget it, thank you.”

The video was Trump’s first posting on Twitter, one of his favorite platforms to communicate with Americans, after announcing he and First Lady Melania Trump had tested positive for COVID-19 at around 1 a.m. on Friday, October 2. 

On Friday evening, Trump boarded Marine One on the South Lawn for the quick flight to Walter Reed Medical Center Trump, wearing a mask, waved and gave the thumbs up to reporters as he walked across the line. 

That afternoon, White House physician Sean Conley said in a memo that Trump was “fatigued” but “in good spirits,” and was being treated with Regernon’s antibody cocktail, an experimental treatment for COVID-19.

Later, multiple outlets reported that Trump was experiencing additional symptoms including a cough, fever, and congestion. 

Because Trump is in his 70s, he’s in a particularly high-risk age group to experience serious complications from COVID-19. 

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reported that Trump became “spooked” by his symptoms and “became increasingly alarmed” as he began experiencing a fever. The White House says that Trump plans to stay at Walter Reed for at least a few days and will work from the hospital’s presidential suite.
