New York House Republicans huddled in Kevin McCarthy’s office, leaving with harsh words for Matt Gaetz.

A group of moderate New York Republicans huddled in Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s office ahead of an anticipated Tuesday afternoon vote to try and oust the speaker.

“The meeting went well, I think the consensus is that Matt Gaetz is an asshole,” said Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (R-N.Y.) following the meeting.

Added Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-N.Y.): “We all have to be judged by whether or not we want to support this institution, or hand it over to any one person on any given day,” referring to Gaetz. “And I think that’s a big mistake.”

A group of California Republicans was also spotted heading into the speakers suite ahead of the expected vote.
