Mike Johnson tells Senate GOP he supports Ukraine aid, stopgap funding through Jan. 15

Speaker Mike Johnson told Senate Republicans he supports funding Ukraine and wants to fund the government through Jan. 15, according to Republican senators who attended a party meeting with him.

“He indicated he’s supportive but the way it’s put together in a supplemental needs a lot of work,” said Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) of Ukraine aid. Hoeven added that Johnson wants to fund the government into January to give more time to get regular appropriations bills finished.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) said Johnson wants to keep Israel funding separate from Ukraine, continuing his break with Senate leaders: “He’s for both of them. He wants to do them one at time.”
