Democrat Debbie Dingell Says She Was ‘More Rattled’ by Anti-Israel Protest Than the January 6 Capitol Riot

Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Dingell said she was more scared during the recent pro-Palestinian protest on Capitol Hill than she was during the January 6 protests and Capitol riot.

On Wednesday night, hundreds of protesters descended on the southern end of Capitol Hill where the Democratic National Committee headquarters sits. The protest quickly turned violent and police brought out shields and other gear.

Mediaite reports:

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) said she was “more rattled” by an anti-Israel protest outside of a Democratic National Committee building on Wednesday than she was by the January 6 attack on the Capitol Building.

Dingell was prevented from leaving through two exits blocked by protesters Wednesday evening, and at one of them encountered a female police officer receiving medical treatment after having been pepper-sprayed.

The congresswoman told The Detroit News that the episode “rattled me more than January 6th did.”

“I was scared,” said Dingell. “Someone is going to get hurt at one of these things. They can get out of control.”

Capitol Police: The Demonstration ‘Was Not Peaceful’

During the 2021 Capitol Hill protests that morphed into riots, many members of Congress expressed concern for their safety. Most notably socialist New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who said she feared for her life during the incident.

But Dingell claims the more recent protest was even worse.

Mediate continued, “The three highest ranking Democrats in the House of Representatives, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA), and Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-CA) were all also inside of the DNC building at the time.”

The report added, “At least six police were injured by protesters outside of the building, and the Capitol Police released a statement insisting that the demonstration ‘was not peaceful’ and ‘failed to obey our lawful orders to move back from the DNC, where Members of Congress were in the building.”

The normally quiet DNC headquarters has been in the news since the alleged attempted bombing of the building during the Capitol protest – for which the FBI still doesn’t have a single suspect.

Debbie Dingell Defends Rashida Tlaib

Earlier this month, Rep. Dingell defended fellow Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib for sharing the phrase “from the river to the sea” on social media, words many believe refer to the mass extermination of Jews in Israel.

Dingell said on the House floor during a motion to censure Tlaib, “I spent all weekend in Michigan talking to all communities about the meaning of this phrase and there are really strong feelings on all sides. People interpret words in different ways.”

The House voted to censure Tlaib 234-188. Fox News reported, “The punishment, while largely symbolic, was a formal public rebuke of her most recent anti-Israel comments made in the wake of the Jewish nation’s war against terror group Hamas.”

“Twenty-two Democrats voted with 212 Republicans to censure Tlaib. Four GOP lawmakers voted against the measure,” Fox News added.
