The officers all work in the Northern Territory and will feature in the Channel 10 show Territory Cops which airs tonight at 8pm.Speaking to news.com.au, police officer Mark Bland recalled a not-too-bright criminal who broke out of prison, only to return straight away.“We identified a prison escapee in a stolen car,” he said. “We attempted to apprehend the vehicle which resulted in a police pursuit. The escapee then drove the stolen vehicle to the prison (with us directly behind him) straight through two sets of closed roller doors back into the prison yard, and then onto the prison oval where he continued to conduct burnouts until finally giving himself up to police. “He basically returned himself to the prison from which he escaped,” Detective Senior Sergeant Bland said.For police officer Sarah Hutchinson, her craziest career moment came when she was working on the Tiwi Islands.“A drunk man who had thrown himself off the local ferry service and into the sea between the Tiwis and Darwin,” she told news.com.au.“What made it crazier was that the person who heroically leapt in to rescue him was also drunk, had forgotten that he didn’t know how to swim and also needed rescuing. “When both men were rescued and the ferry resumed its journey to the Tiwis, the bloke threw himself into the water a second time and needed to be rescued again.”Needless to say, that didn’t go down too well with the 200 passengers on board.“Many of them threatened to jump in and drown him themselves,” Ms Hutchinson told news.com.au. Detective Superintendent Kerry Hoskins also told news.com.au about a wild moment from her career.“I was in a remote community being chased by some cranky old man (who was a bit crazy too) with a machete and a tomahawk because his toilet was broken and he couldn’t get someone to fix it,” she said.These are the types of incidents you can expect to see on Territory Cops which airs tonight at 8pm on Ten.
