Adding to his two Koi Dessert Bars in Sydney, owned with brothers Ronald and Arnold, Poernomo told News Corp Australia he was scouting Melbourne’s CBD for a third location.“It’s always been on our checklist to come down to Melbourne,” he said. “It’s still early days but we’re hoping to open another Koi in the near future.”The dessert wizard famous for creating exciting delights such as the Harry Potter inspired Golden Snitch and Down the Rabbit Hole while on MasterChef revealed his creations for Koi this year would be even more impressive.“We are relocating our Sydney restaurant to Central Park (Chippendale) in September and there will be a new menu when it opens,” he said.“I’m trying to look at more colour but I also want to challenge myself more by creating more experiential and interactive dishes that give more of a story.”And as for his favourite dessert currently on the menu, Poernomo’s answer is surprising.“I don’t eat my own creations; I taste them but usually I just prefer gelato, always salted caramel,” he said. “I’m not a big sweet tooth.”Poernomo was a firm favourite to win MasterChef Australia: Back to Win last year, sending shockwaves when he was knocked out of the competition in third place following a dessert challenge. But he returns tonight for the fourth elimination of season 13 with alumni favourites Poh Ling Yeow and Callum Hann. Together, they will cap off Superstars Week by each bringing a selection of dishes from their own food businesses to set the contestants the challenge of creating a meal to fit the menu.“I found the mixture [of contestants] is very interesting and diverse this season,” Poernomo said. “I’ve heard Therese is a ‘Dessert Queen’ in the making. I want to see how she goes later in the season and what she can come up with.”Watch MasterChef tonight, 7.30pm on Ten, for the fourth elimination of the season.
