Mr Warrick was an iconic mainstay for the network, joining Channel Seven Queensland in 1976 and enjoying a 40-year career in the industry. He retired in 2001.
Mr Warrick’s former co-presenter Kay McGrath released a statement in tribute of the TV icon as news broke of his death.
“We had a very successful 13-year on-air relationship during the 80s and 90s when 6pm news was a ritual for viewers,” Ms McGrath said.
“Live TV can be a challenging environment at times, but we always had each other’s backs.”
Ms McGrath said Warrick “changed the way TV news was delivered in Queensland, going live on air for hours on end with breaking news and putting himself at the centre of big stories”.
“What he pioneered back then, continues with our team today,” she said.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk posted a tribute to the former newsreader, saying “Frank Warrick loved Queensland, and Queenslanders loved him.
