The Delta strain has so far been found in seven people from two families in Victoria, including three children.Chief health officer Brett Sutton said on Friday the new variant was of “significant concern” and unrelated to the South Australian quarantine leak that prompted the state’s current lockdown.The Victorian outbreak thus far had been a variant known as Kappa, which was also first found in India. Two adults and two children from the family who travelled interstate make up four of the cases in the Delta strain cluster, while two adults and a child make up the other three.The family made several stops in and around Jervis Bay and on a trip down the Hume Highway days before they developed symptoms and tested positive for the virus.Their movements include:May 19: The family is in Jervis Bay, NSW, staying at a campground.May 21: Visits to a store and cafe in Huskisson and a Coles in Vincentia.May 22: Visit to Vincentia Coles.May 23: Visits to a cafe in Hyams Beach and again to Vincentia Coles.May 24: The family travel back to Melbourne, making a pit stop at Goulburn’s Big Merino petrol station and the bakery across the road. They also stop at BP service stations in Wallan, Euroa and Glenrowan.On May 25, an adult male returned to work in the Melbourne CBD.He tests positive to Covid-19 on June 1, with another adult and two children testing positive the next day.As a result, more than 300 close contacts associated with North Melbourne Primary School were sent into isolation.Three members of another family tested positive on June 3, making up the seven Delta strain cases announced on Friday.It remains unknown from where the first family picked up the Delta strain.Victoria recorded five new locally acquired cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, bringing the number of cases in the recent outbreak to 69.
