The former AFL footballer, charity worker and reality TV star hit the headlines after appearing on MAFS and going through some messy breakups. He posted a message on social media after a month away from Instagram.“Some of you might have already noticed that recently I’ve taken some time away through no fault but my own the last 10 months have been extremely difficult,’’ Edwards said. “I made some choices in my life that have impacted me personally but also impacted people that I love and care about a lot as well. “My mental health got to a point that I needed to step away and that’s what I did. “One of the toughest things in life is to put your hand up and admit that you need help and I was fortunate enough to be able to come away to a place like this with the full support of my family and friends. “And as hard and as challenging as it’s been and confronting and many tears along the way, it’s changed my life and it’s probably saved my life as well.”Edwards’ whirlwind romance with fitness trainer and mum of four Sophie Guidolin imploded last month just weeks after he had her name tattooed on his lower torso. The pair went public with their relationship and declared their love in a podcast which has since been deleted. He was going to relocate to Queensland but returned to Victoria.“I’ve been able to find some answers which has been really important and I look forward to sharing with you all the positive change for me moving forward and I’ll do that in the future,’’ Edwards said. “For everyone who has sent messages it really means a lot, they do get through to me and to my family and friends I love you all so, so much and I’ll be seeing you all again very soon.”Edwards set up Outside The Locker Room in 2015 after suffering depression and attempting self-harm when his AFL career ended at Carlton. He works with sporting clubs to educate people in the areas of drugs, alcohol, depression and mental health. On Married At First Sight Edwards was paired with “TV wife” Rebecca Zemek which ended shortly after filming.Edwards’ engagement to Melbourne photographer Paige McCuskey abruptly ended in late 2019, just weeks before their wedding, after he cheated on her.
