Apple launched the new M1 iMac earlier this year at its Spring Loaded events. While the machine is pretty capable in terms of performance, Apple did introduce a new Hello screen saver. While it appears to be designed for the new iMac, you can enable the ‘hello’ screen saver on any Mac which is running macOS 11.3 or later.
How to Easily Enable the Hidden ‘Hello’ Screen Saver on Any Mac Running macOS Big Sur 11.3 or Later
As mentioned earlier, Apple’s new M1 iMac boasts a new ‘hello’ screen saver which you can enable in any Mac, this includes the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and the Mac mini. Take note that the feature is not available by default so you would have to dig in the Settings and enable it manually. Moreover, the ‘hello’ screen saver is not exclusive to the M1 Macs. What this means is that you can also enable the hello screen saver on Macs with an Intel processor.
If you are unfamiliar, this is how you can enable the hello screen saver on your Mac. Just follow the listed steps below and you are all good to go.
1. On your Mac running macOS Big Sur 11.3 or later versions, open the System folder and click on Library.
2. Now, click on Screen Savers.
3. Drag the “Hello.saver” file on your desktop and rename the file.
4. Double click on the file and then follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
Once the installation is done, you should see the “Hello” screen saver added an option in the list of screen savers on your Mac. Simply head over to System Preferences > Desktop > Screen Saver > Screen Saver. There you have it, you can now set the screen saver on your Mac.
The hello screen saver is quite impressive and different as it cycles through different colors. Moreover, there are numerous themes to choose from which include “Spectrum,” “Soft Tones,” and “Minimal.” The screen saver will display ‘hello’ in different languages by default but you can force it to appear in your native language. To do that, you have to toggle off show ‘hello’ in different languages in the Screen Saver options.
