Trailer drops for new HBO drama

Scenes from a Marriage is officially airing in Australia on Foxtel in September, at the same time as the US premiere.Adapted from Ingmar Bergman’s praised 1973 Swedish TV series of the same name, the re-imagined marital drama will explore the ugly side of marriage as it re-examines love, hatred, desire, monogamy and divorce through the eyes of an American couple.The original miniseries followed the painful unravelling of a privileged couple who share a young daughter, told over a 10 year timeline. It became critically admired for its realism and human portrayal.The adaptation stars Golden Globe winner and US actor Oscar Isaac (Show Me A Hero, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Oscar nominee and US actress Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, The Help) in the lead roles.RELATED: Best shows to watch on every streamer this monthThe show also marks Chastain’s first starring role in a television series, having enjoyed the bulk of her illustrious career on film.The series is written and directed by The Affair co-creator, Hagai Levi, and is executive produced by Chastain, Isaac, Hagai Levi, Amy Herzog, Michael Ellenberg, Lars Blomgren, Daniel Bergman and Blair Breard.After the original aired on Swedish TV in six parts in 1973, the miniseries was condensed into a theatrical version but controversially was ineligible for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.It did however win the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.See the trailer above.
