The news comes after a case was detected in the state’s far north on Tuesday, when a Melbourne university student returned home to Mareeba, via the Sunshine Coast, after visiting a Victorian Tier 1 exposure site. As a result, a number of exposure sites have been listed by Queensland Health, including the popular restaurant Rice Boi at Mooloolaba. Whether the woman, aged in her 20s, should have been in isolation remains a point of contention, as Victorian Health guidelines stipulate anyone who has visited a Tier 1 exposure site needs to isolate for 14 days, even if they receive a negative test. The woman was tested on the Sunshine Coast last week after she was contacted by Victorian health authorities because she had visited the Young & Jackson hotel. Her first test was negative, and she then went about her business with friends in Maroochydore and Mooloolaba before making her way to Mareeba, via Brisbane and Cairns. Queensland Police said in a statement that if “there are any compliance issues regarding this individual, that is something police will look at, at the appropriate time”. “Our priority right now is to ensure anyone who may have been exposed comes forward and gets tested as a precaution,” the said.“It is extremely important that if you have been to an exposure site either in Queensland or across Australia that you follow the directions from authorities very closely.”Queensland recorded one case in hotel quarantine on Wednesday. The southeast mask mandate and other restrictions are poised to ease on Friday.
