A judge formally signed off on the pair’s divorce, TMZ reported, citing court documents between the billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft founder, and his wife of 27 years. The gossip site did not specify the name of the judge or where the documents were filed. The Microsoft co-founder and his wife announced they had split in May, New York Post reported. The pair founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation while they were together and built it into one of the largest charitable organisations in the world.Bill was listed as the fourth richest person in the world by Forbes this year with an estimated $US124 billion fortune.Under the terms of the divorce, neither Bill nor Melinda will receive spousal support, TMZ reported. The documents stated that Melinda “will not change her last name” and that their joint property was being divided as per a separation contract the former couple had already agreed to.In the wake of their split, it was alleged that Bill made unwanted advances on women he worked with at Microsoft and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He confirmed that he had an affair with a Microsoft employee, who reportedly penned a letter about the relationship that reached the company’s board in 2019 and prompted them to bring in an outside law firm to launch an investigation.Though he resigned from the company’s board during the probe, Bill has denied that his departure had anything to do with the relationship.“There was an affair almost 20 years ago which ended amicably,” a spokeswoman told the Wall Street Journal. He has blasted the “rumours and speculation” surrounding the end of his marriage.“It is extremely disappointing that there have been so many untruths published about the cause, the circumstances and the timeline of Bill Gates’s divorce,” a spokeswoman, Bridgitt Arnold, told the New York Times.
