The Chase and Air Canada partnership that was announced at the end of 2020 has taken its first step forward, and it’s exciting news if you collect Ultimate Rewards points and like to redeem Aeroplan points.
Effective today, eligible Chase Ultimate Rewards cardholders can transfer points to Air Canada’s Aeroplan loyalty program at a 1:1 ratio. From there, you can redeem Aeroplan points for award flights on Air Canada or with airline partners, including Star Alliance members United Airlines, Lufthansa, and Singapore Airlines.
Later this year, Chase will begin issuing an Aeroplan co-branded credit card, but you can now join the waitlist to be among the first to know when the card will launch. Those who join now will earn 10,000 points in addition to the launch offer if they’re approved for the card.
Transfer Chase points to Air Canada Aeroplan
If you collect Chase Ultimate Rewards points and have an eligible Chase card, you’ll see the option to transfer points to Aeroplan in the “Transfer to Travel Partners” section of the Ultimate Rewards homepage.
Transfers are at a 1:1 ratio, as with other Chase partners, and must be in 1,000-point increments. You’ll have to enter your Aeroplan frequent flyer information before you can complete a transfer.
To be able to transfer points to Chase’s travel partners, you’ll need an Ultimate Rewards travel card like the
With the addition of Aeroplan, Chase now has 11 airline and three hotel transfer partners:
Even if you don’t usually fly Air Canada, this partnership could be useful to you. You can redeem Aeroplan points on over 40 partner airlines, including Star Alliance members and non-alliance members like Etihad.
Award flights in North America start at just 6,000 points, and there are a number of sweet spots for international partner flights as well. You can check Air Canada’s Points Predictor Tool for an idea of how much specific awards cost.
Waitlist for the Chase Aeroplan credit card
Today’s other tidbit of news is the opening of the waiting list for the Chase-issued Aeroplan credit card, which is slated to launch later in 2021. By adding your name to the waitlist, you’ll be one of the first notified about when the card will be available, but that’s not the only reason to join.

If you’re on the waitlist and are later approved for the Chase Aeroplan card when it launches, you’ll earn an extra 10,000 Aeroplan points on top of the card’s welcome offer. We don’t know exactly what the welcome bonus will be, but an extra 10,000 points could be enough for a domestic one-way ticket – so it’s worth joining even if you’re not sure you’ll apply.
According to the terms and conditions, you must join the waitlist by November 8, 2021, and be approved for the card by February 15, 2022, to qualify for the additional 10,000 bonus points. That hints at the timeline for the card’s launch, but we don’t know exactly when that will be.
