Premier Daniel Andrews said a further 16 infections were detected from rapid testing in the Shepparton region, triggering the Melbourne lockdown to be expanded to include the entire state from 1pm on Saturday. The state’s regions will have to adhere to the same stay-at-home directions imposed in the city, except for the curfew which will only be in place in Melbourne.Mr Andrews urged Victorians to come forward immediately for testing in response to the alarming number of new cases reported on Saturday who were infectious in the community.“There is every good reason and it is essential that people come forward as soon as they register symptoms,” the Premier said.“There are in the cases we are reporting today … there are some people who have not been quick to get tested. “They have perhaps had symptoms for a period of time, and unknowingly, they have spread this virus. So it is really, really important, really important, that everyone who has got symptoms goes and acts on the symptoms — goes and gets tested.”Health authorities said 22 of the new infections reported on Saturday were in isolation for the duration of their infectious period, leaving 39 who were out and about in the community. Of the 61 cases, 48 are linked to known outbreaks and 13 unlinked.“This is across Melbourne and it is into the regions and we all need to take it seriously and we all need to act accordingly,” Mr Andrews said.“The rules will protect life and it will mean that if we follow them, we can drive these numbers down and be open again.”
