Speaking to Pete, Matt and Kymba on Mix 94.5, Stefanovic couldn’t hide his envy when greeting the hosts from locked-down Sydney.“That’s what freedom sounds like,” he joked as the hosts teased him about being in “the greatest city in the world,” Covid-free Perth.Calling the situation “depressing”, Stefanovic went on to explain what it’s like seeing West Australians live in freedom as Sydneysiders remain in lockdown amid the out-of-control spread of the delta strain. It comes as WA Premier Mark McGowan says he won’t reopen borders until the state reaches a 90 per cent vaccination figure, which could be months off.“I’m constantly in touch with what’s going on over there (in WA) … But for the rest of us it’s like watching your footy team get done 120 points to five, and having to sit around and watch. It’s really just so depressing,” said Stefanovic.Going on to applaud Mr McGowan, he added: “Then you’ve got your premier who gets out there and just trumpets like you’re never going to have anything go wrong in WA, and that your freedoms in WA are going to carry on forever, while we’re stuck in this Covid vortex never to see the light of day again. It’s very depressing,” he said.Comparing Mr McGowan’s strict border control and swift reactions to any hint of an outbreak to Ms Berejiklian’s Covid response, Stefanovic said he’s done “a brilliant job.” “If you could keep it from coming in why wouldn’t you? … We’re in a state that’s let it run free and didn’t get locked down right in the first place.“I think he’s done a brilliant job. You guys have got relatively normal lives, it says everything.“Our Premier has just completely and absolutely botched it,” he said to laughs from the hosts, who joked that they had the NSW Premier on the line.Pretending to address her directly, the Channel 9 media personality said: “Gladys it’s a basket case, you’ve stuffed it up!”It’s been another concerning day for NSW, with the state recording 1220 new cases and eight deaths as the health system braces for a massive influx of Covid patients.Ms Berejiklian was grilled by reporters about when she expected to reach the 70 per cent vaccination rate, which will allow the state to reopen. She said freedom day would be coming in October.“I’m very keen to make sure as soon as we have done the work and Health had the appropriate input we make our road map public,” she said.National – 2021 – Covid Vaccination Stats“We are looking forward to hitting 70 per cent double dose in October and I can’t stress enough now we’re encouraging people to not get left behind.“Those things that we’ll all miss are only available to those who are vaccinated. I don’t want to put a date on it tome. We’re still working on the detail. But it would be important to note that we’ve done a lot of work towards that already.”Meanwhile, tough-talking Mark McGowan today said it could be two months from reopening borders to other states. The Premier also questioned if Covid-infected states NSW or Victoria would reopen to Western Australia if the shoe was on the other foot.“The answer, I think, would be no, so we are just doing what is required to keep our people safe,” Mr McGowan said.vaxx qs
