The state notched up another daily cases record, surpassing Tuesday’s 867 infections.Seven new deaths were also announced by the health department on Wednesday morning, taking the death toll of the outbreak to 36.The number of Victorians who have lost their lives to Covid-19 now stands at 856.The outbreak continues to hit younger Victorians the hardest with 83 per cent of all active cases aged under 50, while almost a quarter of cases are people in their 20s.It comes as another regional Victorian local government area was sent into a snap seven-day lockdown overnight.There are now only six reasons to leave home in the City of Latrobe, the same as what applies in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire.Acting chief health officer Ben Cowie said the number of active cases in the area had “rapidly increased” in recent days to 22 infections.Locked down Melburnians and people living in Latrobe and the Mitchell Shire can now have a hit of tennis or play a round of golf after several Covid-19 restrictions were eased overnight.Under the “modest easing” of restrictions that kicked in at 11.59pm on Tuesday, Victorians in lockdown can play golf or tennis again, and go fishing and boating, along with other contactless outdoor recreation activities.The travel limit has also been expanded to 15km for exercising and shopping.People in metropolitan Melbourne and regional areas in lockdown can also gather outdoors in groups of up to five adults from two households, if all adults are fully vaccinated.Personal training can take place with five fully vaccinated people outside plus a fully vaccinated trainer.No new cases were recorded in hotel quarantine on Wednesday.
