Microsoft introduced Android apps on Windows 11 earlier today. The company is starting the process with its Insiders community in the United States. Microsoft said Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel, based in the US, and running Windows 11 Build 22000.xxx series builds can now download Android apps from Microsoft Store.
Build 22000 is the one that has also been released to the public. Since the Dev Channel Insiders have moved on to testing from the development branch, they won’t be getting the preview of Android apps on Windows 11 right away. Brandon LeBlanc of the Windows development team wrote that the company plans to bring the preview to the Dev Channel Insiders “down the road.”
How to run Android apps on Windows 11
Microsoft has shared the following checklist to be able to run Android apps on Windows 11:
- Your PC needs to be on Windows 11 (Build 22000.xxx series builds) and meet these hardware requirements.
- You may need to enable virtualization for your PC’s BIOS/UEFI. Click here for a guide on how to enable this on your PC.
- Your PCs’ region must be set to the U.S.
- Your PC must be in the Beta Channel. If you are new to the Windows Insider Program, click here to get started with registration and joining your PC to the Beta Channel.
- You will also need to have a U.S.-based Amazon account to use the Amazon Appstore.
Once you are all set, you can head over to this link to open Microsoft Store and start the process. It will verify if your device meets the requirements and set up your environment.
As mentioned in our earlier coverage, this all is happening thanks to a new component that Microsoft calls Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA). Today’s release is based on version 1.7.32815.0. “You will see a listing for it under your Start menu where you can adjust specific settings for the experience,” the company said. Updates to this Subsystem will be delivered automatically through Microsoft Store, and if a restart is required, Microsoft said that the Amazon Appstore would automatically launch after the restart, or you can launch it from the Start menu.

- If you are experiencing Amazon App Store sign in problems turn your Ad Blocker off.
- Accessibility options are not yet enabled when using the Amazon Appstore.
[Windows Subsystem for Android]
- Network access issues on Cellular LTE on ARM64.
- May see display visual artifacts on certain applications on ARM64.
- Performance may vary when running multiple concurrent Apps.
- There are known camera issues on certain apps.
- Apps coming out of modern standby will encounter issues.
