Bookings to get the vaccine top-up opened up on Thursday morning for appointments available from next Monday. Territorians who received their vaccination at least six months ago will be eligible for the jab.Health Minister Natasha Fyles said booster doses helped provide Territorians the best protection for themselves, their loved ones and the community. “Our community has done an excellent job rolling up their sleeves – 88 per cent of Territorians have received their first dose and 74 per cent are now fully vaccinated,” she said.The Therapeutic Goods Administration approved the use of booster shots about a week ago. The shots are recommended by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation. Getting the third jab is not mandatory, but the federal Health Department endorses eligible people get one to maintain immunity against the virus.The booster dose increases a person’s protection against infection, severe disease and dying from Covid-19.NSW and Western Australia began offering booster shots to its residents on November 1.
