The session the coach attended was held on November 19 from 4.30pm-11pm at Mornington Basketball Stadium at Mornington Secondary College.The try outs included junior boys and girls from U12 to U18.A statement on Mornington District Basketball Association (MDBA) website revealed the coach had been at the stadium from 4.45pm to 11pm.The players were all vying for a spot on the Breakers team which represents Mornington District Basketball Association in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL).There are at least 10 clubs affiliated with Mornington District including Mount Martha, Osborne United, Mount Eliza, Beleura Junior Sports Club, Balnarring Storm, Flinders, Peninsula Bobcats, Frankston High School, Southend Spirit (Frankston, Mornington, Western Port and Chelsea) and Kingston Comets.MDMA said those deemed close contacts have been notified and advised to get tested immediately and isolate while waiting for a negative result.Those who have not been contacted have been told to monitor for symptoms and get tested if any are experienced.On Monday Basketball Victoria announced that all VJBL players 12 years and 2 months plus must be fully vaccinated to participate, effective immediately. The mandate relates to Mornington Breakers players and does not change domestic competition vaccination requirements. A statement on the VJBL website revealed that the decision was made after an audit of VJBL and CBL venues found more than 65 per cent were unable to offer the Community Sport Exemption due to the layout, operation or usage of their venues.The Breakers case was the third to hit the association since the domestic summer season began on November 8.On Wednesday, November 17 a person who later tested positive to Covid attended court 1 at Mornington Basketball Stadium from 4pm-5.30pm.The association also uses courts at Ciic Reserve Mornington.A person who later tested positive to Covid was at court 2 at the Dunns Road stadium on Saturday, November 13, between 9am and 10am. “We have been in communication with the Department of Health and those deemed close contacts have been advised to test, isolate where applicable and follow health advice,” the MDBA said.“Anyone else who has not been contacted directly but was in the stadium or facility at that time and develops symptoms should test immediately and follow health directions.”According to the MDBA website patrons aged 12 years and two months and older must show proof of double vaccination to enter Civic Reserve Recreation Centre.The centre is owned by Mornington Peninsula Shire Council.However, Mornington Baskteball Stadium only requires proof of vaccination from patrons 16 years and over.Patrons are defined as players, coaches and team staff, referees, employees, volunteers, parents and spectators.lucy.callander@news.com.au
