But while Delta Goodrem has taken most jokes about the Delta variant in her stride, the Australian singer was unable ignore a ‘disturbing’ ad posted by NSW Health on Friday. Goodrem lashed the state’s health department on Instagram after it shared a story featuring a photo of her head being jabbed by cartoon needles. The ad has been deleted from NSW Health’s Instagram stories, which were part of its Fact Check Friday series. “I have a HUGE problem with this @newsouthwaleshealth are you serious????????” Goodrem wrote over the original post. “Needles pointing at a picture of my head in an attempt to get your point across is disturbing!!!!!!”Goodrem’s fans have also rallied behind the singer, slamming NSW Health for using her image in the “disgraceful” ad: NSW Health on Saturday apologised to Goodrem for the post. “NSW Health was attempting to convey an important public health message but recognises it made an error of judgement and sincerely regrets the offence caused to Delta Goodrem,” a spokeswoman said. Goodrem has previously gone along with the joke that she shares a name with the Delta variant.Just this month she told Sunrise that while the emergence of the Omicron strain was worrying, she was glad focus had shifted from the previous strain. “What a Christmas present that we get the Omicron strain of Covid-19 and we can kiss goodbye to Delta,” Sunrise host David Koch asked the star.“I don’t want to hear about this terrible Delta, get rid of her, get rid of her,” Goodrem said, adding “I was here first!”Goodrem said she sometimes found it confusing when she would hear media run stories about the Delta variant.“It was definitely confusing to watch you guys in the morning, when I’m getting up I’d hear “Delta danger” or “Delta out of control” and I’d be like “sorry, what?” she told Sunrise. The needle faux-pas comes a few days after Goodrem opened up about her surprise departure from The Voice in an interview with Marie Claire. Her latest album, Bridge Over Troubled Dreams, hit number one in May this year, but a national tour to support the record has been delayed several times due to Covid lockdowns. It is finally scheduled to take place in March next year.
