You can delete or deactivate a Kik account through web portals from the service.

  • To delete Kik, you need access to the email address and username you used to create your Kik account.
  • If you no longer want to use Kik, you can also temporarily deactivate your account instead of permanently deleting it.
  • To deactivate or delete your Kik account, just visit the appropriate deactivation portal in a web browser, enter the requested information, and submit.

There was a time when the messaging app Kik was especially notable for its cross-platform compatibility, high level of privacy, and ability to chat relatively anonymously. These days, a number of other apps (like WhatsApp and Signal) do essentially the same thing, so if you would prefer to leave Kik, it’s easy to temporarily deactivate your account (in case you may want to return some time in the future) or simply delete it permanently.

How to delete a Kik account

If you are certain you are done with Kik and want to permanently delete your account, Kik lets you do that with just a few clicks. When you delete your Kik account, here is what happens:

  • You will no longer be able to access your account.
  • You’ll stop getting Kik messages and emails.
  • Your Kik username won’t be searchable on Kik.
  • Your profile will be removed from any contacts you have exchanged messages with.

The only caveat: You need to know (and have access to) the email address that was originally used to create the Kik account. Here’s what to do:

1. Open the Kik account deletion portal in a web browser.

2. Enter your Kik username and the email address you used to set up the account.

3. Enter a reason why you are leaving Kik.

4. Check the box that acknowledges you are permanently deleting your account.

5. Click Go!

6. Check your email. You’ll get a deactivation email; click the included link to permanently deactivate (i.e., delete) your account.

How to deactivate a Kik account

If you want to step away from Kik but you’re not sure if you want your departure to be permanent, you can temporarily deactivate your account, which gives you the option to reactivate it later simply by logging back into your account. When you deactivate your account, here is what happens:

  • You’ll stop getting Kik messages and emails.
  • Your Kik username won’t be searchable on Kik.
  • Your profile will be removed from any contacts you have exchanged messages with.

You’ll need access to the email address that was originally used to create the Kik account. Here’s what to do:

1. Open the Kik account deactivation portal in a web browser.

2. Enter the email address you used to set up the account.

3. Click Go!

4. Check your email. You’ll get a deactivation email; click the included link to temporarily deactivate your account. To reactivate it later, just sign back in using the Kik app.
