Map: Sydney’s west hit hard as surge gathers pace

Latest NSW Health data shows the City of Sydney has experienced the largest daily jump in infection numbers with active cases soaring by 368 – bringing its total to 1961.The figures, published in NSW Health’s daily update on Wednesday, show Canterbury-Bankstown also added 321 new cases, increasing the total of active cases to 1773.Sydney’s weekly surge in Covid casesOther regions in Sydney where case numbers are surging include Blacktown (up 214), Randwick (up 201), the Inner West (up 184), Cumberland (up 182) and Sutherland (up 172).Residents in Newcastle continue to remain on high alert with 297 new active cases recorded in the latest daily statistics.The figure brings its total number of active cases to 2912 – by far the highest for any local government area in NSW.Residents in neighbouring regions are also on alert as active case numbers climb to 1978 in Lake Macquarie, 854 in the Central Coast, 822 in Maitland, 365 in Port Stephens and 212 in Cessnock.The city appears as a disturbing sea of black on NSW Health’s latest cases map, with the darker the colour denoting the greater concentration of cases.SEE HOW MANY ACTIVE CASES ARE IN YOUR SUBURB*Click on the three horizontal lines in the top left of the map.
