Andrew O’Keefe hit with drug charge

Police told Sydney’s Central Local Court on Friday there would be one additonal charge relating to the January 25 incident, while a matter relating to an AVO breach would be addressed separately. Court documents seen by news.com.au reveal police will allege he was in posesssion of 1.5 grams of cannabis on January 27 when he was arrested. O’Keefe already faces two counts of intentionally choking a person without consent, three counts of common assault, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an incident at a Kent Street apartment in Sydney.Police have alleged O’Keefe grabbed a 38-year-old woman by the throat, pushing her to the ground and punching her.O’Keefe was refused bail after appearing in court last month and remains in police custody at the Silverwater Correctional Complex.Magistrate Robert Williams adjourned the matter on Friday while awaiting information pertaining to the new charge. The case is set to return to court on February 11 for both matters to be heard, with O’Keefe to appear via video link. He was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2017 for “significant service to the broadcast media as a television presenter, and to social welfare and charitable organisations”.O’Keefe was previously an ambassador for the White Ribbon, an anti-domestic violence organisation.However, White Ribbon said last year it had gone into liquidation in 2019 and that O’Keefe has had no role with the group since it relaunched in 2020.Last winter, he sold a four-bedroom home in North Bondi that he previously shared with ex-wife Eleanor Campbell for more than $6 million.That was at least $1.5 million more than they asked when the Murriverie Road property enterred the market a week before the sale.The home, on a 470 sqm of land, was sold before a planned auction after negotiations between the agent and five interested parties.Property records show the house was previously sold in 2007 for $1.9 million.
