During the pandemic, I started to realize that I waste a lot of time at night. I didn’t have any events or dinners with friends to look forward to after work anymore, so I started spending way too much quality time with my couch and the remote.

I started to realize the countless hours I was spending every night watching TV shows was time I could be spending earning extra cash.

That’s when I wondered what kind of side hustles were out there that could bring in an extra $1,000 or more every week to add to my yearly income. Here’s a list of four gigs that I’ve found.

1. Voiceover and audiobook narration

If you like the sound of your own voice, you should absolutely get paid to use it. That’s where voiceover and audiobook narration work can come in handy as your nighttime side hustle.

As a podcast host for more than four years, this seemed like an obvious gig for me to try. When I looked into it more, I found that by setting up a profile on sites like voices.com or ACX and recording an audio clip, reading a page of a book or pretending to narrate a commercial, was all I would need to get started booking jobs.

You can earn $300 for a 3-hour audiobook narration session and if you booked your weeknights doing this, you’d net over $1,000 a week.

While voiceover work and pay can vary, According to Voices.com, a trained voice actor can make up to $10,000 for a single national TV commercial.

2. Become a notary loan signing agent

One side hustle I learned about through a friend in the real estate world, is becoming a notary signing agent. This involves being trained to handle and notarize loan documents.

Their primary job is to sit with a borrower and make sure the real estate loan documents are properly executed, notarized, and returned for processing on time. Since most borrowers have jobs during the day, they are often looking for a notary signing agent with availability after work or on the weekends.

So how much does this job pay? According to Loan Signing System, a notary loan signing agent can get paid between $75 and $125 per signing appointment. If you were to do two appointments after work, five days a week, you could potentially earn around $1,000.

After becoming a notary signing agent, you can then create profiles on websites like Notarycafe.com or SigningAgent.com and book jobs based on your availability.

3. Online tutoring

If you’re someone who is passionate about a certain subject and enjoys teaching others, you can put those skills to use as an online tutor

After signing up on a tutoring platform like Preply or VIPKid, you can start booking jobs as an online tutor for kids all over the world.

The average earning rate is around $22 to $25 per hour, so you’d have to find 40 post-work hours to earn $1,000 a week from this, but it could be a good option to make money during holidays and summer vacations if you’re a teacher.

4. Create an online course

If you don’t want to spend 40-hours a week doing live tutoring, another way to monetize your expertise is by creating and selling an online course. You can take a subject or topic that you’re knowledgeable about, create lesson plans, record videos, and upload it to a course hosting platform like Thinkific or Skillshare. This option is especially great if you’re looking to make passive income.

Once the course is created, you might want to spend 10 or 15 hours a week on marketing through social media, email, partnerships, blogging, etc. to get people to purchase it. If you price a course at $99, it would only take 11 sales a week to earn $1,000.
